Tutu Tuesday in Bulwell: A Sparkle Odyssey It's #Tututuesday and, darling, Bulwell is shimmering! As a seasoned ballerina and fashionista with a penchant for pink and all things magical, I just have to share the sartorial brilliance that graced our fair town this week. Let’s just say, it was more glitter than the Strictly Come Dancing finale, more tutus than a Royal Ballet performance and a touch of unicorn magic to top it off. It's no secret I adore a tutu – who doesn't? A twirl-worthy symphony of fabric, it transcends age, shape, and size. A little tulle, a dash of lace, and a sprinkle of glitter? It’s like a wardrobe time machine back to the golden age of disco, when tutus were embraced with wild abandon. From the iconic fluffy, multi-layered masterpieces (think Black Swan vibes), to the delicate, single-layered designs that evoke dreams of a ballerina princess – it’s a style statement as classic and versatile as a trusty little black dress. And Bulwell, my darling Bulwell, didn’t disappoint! I was greeted with an explosion of tutus as soon as I stepped onto the high street. • The grandest was Mrs. Featherstone, bless her cotton socks! Wearing a a powder-pink tulle explosion, reminiscent of a whimsical unicorn's mane, she sashayed through Tesco, her grocery basket held aloft in one hand, her silver handbag twinkling like a constellation in the other. Her sparkly ballet flats added the finishing touch, giving her a sprinkle of that magical unicorn magic I just can't get enough of. • The most creative tutu came from young Billy, whose Mum was trying (unsuccessfully, it seems) to encourage his love of all things musical with some sort of classical CD. His look was definitely “rock-star ballerina”, with a black, slashed tutu featuring jagged edges and an awesome unicorn graphic (a neon-green, fire-breathing unicorn, with sparkles, Naturally!). It was a unique blend of ballerina style and the energy of his favourite band, The Strokes. Now if only his parents could appreciate his tutu as much as I did. I think this kid needs to embrace his inner disco dancer. • Then there was Brenda, the Queen of Bulwell's high street. A force of nature, Brenda loves everything a bit bigger and brighter than the rest. This meant, naturally, a very full-on, extremely fluffy tutu, decorated with shimmering gold stars, complete with rainbow tulle and an equally impressive, matching rainbow feather boa. Brenda was not holding back – she wore her fabulous tutu like a shield. A powerful statement of her independent spirit. Of course, this being Bulwell, it wouldn’t be complete without some quirky character. There was Mr. Harris who proudly wore a tutu crafted entirely from the shiny flyers for local car dealers and garage sales, his trusty walking stick adding to the drama. A testament to the artistic spirit of Bulwell! • My absolute favorite, though, was the teenage couple, Ellie and Ben, sporting a pair of complementary rainbow-tinted tutus. Now, there's a message of love and freedom to embrace. A very sweet reminder that tutus, darling, are for everyone! No matter who you are or what you look like, if you've got the confidence and a little bit of glitter, you can absolutely pull it off. Of course, it was the unexpected and the unique that added so much personality. There was the little girl who declared she wanted to "dance like a magical unicorn". She then set about twirling, while a local cat who looked utterly perplexed by the entire spectacle looked on, its gaze flickering between the cat-food-tin in the girl's hands and the shimmering, rainbow fabric swirling around the little ballerina. Another true Bulwell moment! I couldn't have imagined a more charming day. The secret to rocking the tutu, darling? You need that certain twinkle in your eye, that willingness to be a bit bold. That’s exactly why I think we’re seeing a revival of the tutu – it's not about conformity, it’s a statement of individuality. I hope Bulwell’s tutus bring joy to everyone they see! Let’s keep it shimmering, people! Happy #Tututuesday!
