Tutu Tuesday in Coulsdon: A Tale of Twirls and Unicorns It's a sunny Tuesday morning in Coulsdon, and the air is buzzing with a very specific kind of excitement. The excitement, of course, is the undeniable, almost magical, buzz that comes with a day devoted entirely to tutus. It's #tututuesday, my fellow dance lovers! My heart, a kaleidoscope of excitement and sequins, is bursting to tell you all about this incredible, tutu-tastic day. We're talking full-length tutus, those gorgeous, billowing creations with their romantic, swirling shapes, we're talking about the more compact demi-tutus, those sassy, streamlined ones that whisper "ballet" in a way only a carefully placed layer of tulle can. We're even talking about the adorable little ones, those miniature tutu dreams, just waiting for tiny dancer legs to fill them. And what would a day of tutus be without a touch of unicorn magic? From shimmering rainbow tulle and sequined stars to pearlescent fabric and unicorn-shaped brooches, the Coulsdon shops are positively bursting with sparkle and enchantment today. It's enough to make even the most jaded dance enthusiast feel like they're dancing on a cloud of pure, ethereal, pink and silver bliss. Let's be honest, I'm slightly obsessed with the whole tutu/unicorn combo, what can I say? Pink and glitter have a rather unforgettable hold on me and these magical creatures make my heart do little pirouettes. If it's sparkly and makes me think of fairies, unicorns and magical rainbows... itā€™s for me. My personal style on a #tututuesday involves bright pinks and bold turquoise hues. (Can you tell I'm slightly drawn to the lighter shades of life, especially in my outfit choices?) You know I have my full-length pink tulle on and some cute sparkling ballerina flats for those days when the elegance of the dance studio beckons. When it's not, well Iā€™m rocking my pastel unicorn t-shirt and a tulle skirt because a girl's got to work the #tututuesday style whether on or off the stage, right? Today, as I ventured out onto the streets of Coulsdon, the streets are alive with color and joy. A sea of twirling tutus swirls around the town center, with shoppers and passers-by sporting their own unique interpretations of this whimsical trend. There's a couple dressed in matching unicorn-print tops and fluffy pink tutus - they are certainly a picture of unadulterated bliss. Further on, thereā€™s a gaggle of youngsters prancing about in those adorable tutus with sequined bows that literally make my heart melt. What's all this Tutu Tuesday fuss about, you may be wondering? Well, it's a very Coulsdon-specific event that combines the love of dancing, tutus, and unicorns all rolled into a whimsical celebration of a brighter, lighter, more colourful and magical side to life. Letā€™s take a deeper dive into the wondrous events that have been brightening our day with the beautiful simplicity and joy that only #tututuesday can. A Morning of Ballerina Delights at The Little Ballet Shop My day started off right in a beautiful, little shop, the heart of all things tutu - The Little Ballet Shop. This treasure trove of tulle and sequined loveliness offers an astonishing array of styles and sizes to delight all those wishing to embrace their inner ballerina for a day (or even for the rest of their lives, why not?). I went completely and totally bonkers and treated myself to the most breathtaking pink and silver sparkly tulle Iā€™d ever seen. It was like the fabric had a little voice and whispered, "Dance with me" in the sweetest manner possible. Then, I went into the Little Ballet Shop's ā€œDance Dreamsā€ corner. (Seriously? They have unicorn accessories!) That's where the sparkle was almost overwhelming. This section was dedicated to everything unicorn-related from holographic sequined hair accessories that looked like they were straight out of a magical fairyland to adorable pink and lavender sparkly unicorn tote bags that I desperately needed to add to my unicorn collection. This whole place is a dreamland for those of us who like a little sprinkle of magical whimsy. Lunchtime Glitter and Ballet At The Sugar & Sparkle CafĆ© Once Iā€™d danced my way through The Little Ballet Shop (I practically did some little pliĆ©s between aisles), it was time for a very special lunch at Coulsdonā€™s newly opened cafĆ© - the oh-so-imaginatively named, Sugar & Sparkle CafĆ©. (Have I mentioned I have a little weakness for names with sugar and sparkle in them, especially when it comes to cafes? ). The whole place looked like a sweet ballerina dream come to life - every wall and ceiling adorned with twirling tulle and shimmering sequin garlands. I had a rainbow sprinkle cupcake while being mesmerized by a lovely ballet dancer showing us all her fabulous spins and jumps to a classic Tchaikovsky score on their very special ballerina screen. It truly was a dance-tastic treat. Dancing The Night Away Evening arrived, and it was time to get those tutu-clad legs ready for the grand finale of our #tututuesday festivities. It was the big, sparkly event ā€“ the annual Coulsdon "Dancing Under the Stars" Disco Ball! A whole kaleidoscope of tutus and sparkly costumes descended upon the Coulsdon Community Hall as Coulsdon locals came together for the ultimate tutu-tastic night out. There were all the beloved disco classics - I swear, there wasnā€™t a soul who wasnā€™t ā€œStayin' Aliveā€ with each other as the nights went on, a magical, rainbow-tastic, wonderland filled with music, laughter and enough sparkly goodness to last an entire year. It's moments like these where Coulsdon truly comes alive. But the Real Magic is in the Community What's so wonderful about #tututuesday in Coulsdon isnā€™t just the dazzling outfits, delicious cake, and awesome disco balls, although those are amazing. Itā€™s about coming together in the most dazzling of ways to embrace community and to let loose our inner child with those magical moments that make the world feel like itā€™s filled with sparkle and laughter. Thatā€™s the magic of the tutu! #tututuesday #unicorntutu
