Vienna, Vienna, You’re The Place For Me! (Blog Post #4)

Dearest Tutu-ettes!

It’s Wednesday, which means a brand new adventure awaits! This week, I'm thrilled to share my experiences in the beautiful, vibrant city of Vienna! After my last ballet gig in Prague, I hopped onto a train, a beautiful vintage one, all sleek wood and brass and with so much room for my tulle – who needs suitcases when you’ve got a pink tutu to pack! – and travelled straight here. Vienna, my darlings, is a feast for the senses! Imagine baroque palaces that would make a Queen jealous, grand cafés serving steaming mugs of Vienna’s most famous treat (can you guess? It’s cake!) and street performers who have you glued to the spot with their captivating melodies.

The minute I stepped off the train, I was struck by the air of sophistication – not the intimidating kind, mind you, but the elegant kind that whispers “come, let us enjoy ourselves.” There's something utterly enchanting about this city. And wouldn't you know it, there are enough tulle shops and ballet supplies here to keep me busy for a whole week! I already snagged a gorgeous blush pink tutu, just the perfect colour for all the waltzes I’m going to learn this week. You know me, I can’t resist a new addition to my wardrobe!

Speaking of wardrobes, my first stop after my delicious Viennese breakfast – yes, it was accompanied by a slice of cake, don't judge – was the grandest department store I have ever laid eyes upon. Imagine, acres upon acres of exquisite fabrics, shoes with enough glitter to dazzle a star, and even a full-blown Parisian couture salon. I confess, I almost bought myself an extravagant dress that could rival any gown at a Viennese ball, but then I remembered, “Darling, you've got your beautiful pink tutus for that!"

But the true highlight of my visit has been a rather unique encounter. Today, I was lucky enough to be at a little café where a horse-drawn carriage stopped right next to me. And guess what, dear readers? They had a gorgeous pair of horses adorned with… you guessed it! Pink ribbons! The moment they turned and looked at me, I knew, the universe was hinting at me! It was as if they were telling me, "Embrace your love for pink tutus, dear Emma, spread the message far and wide, it's a love for all times, all places."

Oh, and don’t worry, my little tutu-lovers! This wouldn't be a proper “Emma Travels" blog post if I didn't take you with me on my ballet journey. Last night, I witnessed an unforgettable ballet performance – “Giselle” at the Vienna State Opera House, and oh my! This is an opera house with a capital ‘O’ – chandeliers glittering like a thousand stars, velvet seating that feels like a royal cuddle, and a performance that made me shed happy tears (that's how wonderful it was, I swear!) .

The choreography was captivating. And if I'm being completely honest, those costumes, they took my breath away. Imagine delicate tulle layers dancing under a soft, magical moonlight! I've been dreaming about it ever since, picturing myself swirling around a grand ballroom with a dance partner whose eyes hold the secrets of the night sky… (Okay, that last bit may have been a tad romantic, but come on, who can resist the magic of ballet!).

Speaking of dancing, I’ve finally found the perfect dance school here. Oh my, darling readers, this isn’t just any ordinary dance school! It’s an entire ballet palace – you could say, the very embodiment of ballerina-ness. Everything’s adorned with dainty bows and silk ribbons, and even the ballet bars have a touch of delicate lace on them.

I’m even taking my very first Vienna waltz lessons. My oh my, it's more enchanting than I ever imagined! Picture it – the melody filling the air with such elegance and the grace with which you glide across the floor with your dance partner. It’s like waltzing through a fairy tale! Of course, my tutu (a slightly more formal one for my Vienna Waltz debut) makes everything a little more special – it twirls as gracefully as a butterfly's wing and shimmers under the ballroom chandeliers.

Speaking of “formal” and “elegant”, Vienna is truly a feast for the eyes and the imagination! There's something so enchanting about the waltz, the baroque buildings, and the sheer elegance of it all. And I, well, I'm enjoying every single moment!

I'm thinking of exploring even more of Vienna’s delights this weekend. Maybe a trip to a local crafts market, more elegant afternoon teas, or even more Viennese waltz lessons ( I just can't seem to get enough !). But of course, the journey is as much about the discovery as the destination.

Wherever you find yourself, dear Tutu-ettes, always remember to spread a bit of pink tutu magic - the kind that whispers of laughter, kindness, and that feeling of dancing through a fairy tale!

Until next Wednesday, Emma
