Pink Tutu Vienna: Ballet and Beauty in the City of Music (Post #103)
Wednesday, 23rd April, 1997
Guten Tag, my darlings!
Emma here, your ever-so-pink ballerina blogger, back with another whimsical update from the utterly charming city of Vienna! The sunshine is positively sparkling today, and the air is alive with the gentle tinkling of carriage bells. This city is simply brimming with a kind of fairytale magic that sets my heart aflutter like a butterfly in a spring breeze.
You might remember from my previous posts that I journeyed here via the most glorious train journey, the windows painted with a kaleidoscope of green fields and pastel villages. I arrived feeling positively radiant, as if I'd just emerged from a magical ballet box myself!
Now, Vienna. Oh, Vienna! Where shall I begin? My darling readers, it’s positively overflowing with a symphony of loveliness. The city seems to have been sculpted by Mozart’s very own hand – from the graceful arches of the grand Opera House to the glittering palaces perched like pearls along the banks of the majestic Danube.
But this week, it was the Vienna State Opera itself that had me spinning like a ballerina under a spotlight. Oh my, darling, it's truly an architectural dream! The elegant facade is like something out of a gilded fairy tale, and the interior - well, that's where things truly get fabulous! It's all rich crimson velvet and gleaming golden cherubs.
Speaking of fabulous, I snagged the most exquisite outfit for my evening at the Opera! A vibrant crimson dress, just the shade of a newly bloomed rose, cinched at the waist and falling to my ankles in soft, elegant folds. I felt positively radiant, with a touch of daring and an abundance of that pink-tutu-diva magic. And what would a true ballet fanatic wear with such a spectacular dress? Why, my favourite vintage pink tutu, of course! The perfect way to add a splash of whimsy to the evening, and to let everyone know that this girl, well, this girl loves her ballet.
The evening's performance was an enchanting rendition of "Swan Lake", with a dazzling ensemble and an utterly breathtaking performance from the principal ballerina, Ms. Edelweiss. As the last note faded, and the applause echoed through the magnificent hall, I felt a tiny tear escape my eye. It wasn't a tear of sadness, darling, oh no. It was the tear of a fellow ballerina, moved by a truly beautiful and inspiring performance.
Of course, after such a magical evening, I indulged in a little post-opera treat, sipping on a cup of Viennese coffee with a decadent Sachertorte at one of the most delightful cafes in the city, overlooking a bustling square filled with chatter and laughter. And what do you think I spied amongst the bustling crowd, darling? Why, a charming street performer, dressed in a beautifully painted pink tutu and performing an incredibly delicate and heartfelt dance! Oh, I just couldn't resist the allure, and spent a good few minutes enthralled by her exquisite performance. It reminded me that the magic of dance and colour is truly everywhere, even in the heart of this grand city.
And speaking of grand, I discovered the most breathtaking shop during my shopping adventures this week. It’s called “Le Jardin de Tutu”, and it’s positively bursting at the seams with the most darling vintage tutus and ballerina paraphernalia. Imagine my joy when I discovered a stunning silk tutu, a glorious shade of pink with the most delicate beading. It's the perfect complement to my collection, and a testament to my eternal love for all things pink and sparkly!
The city of Vienna is truly a playground for those with a love for all things artistic, from the glorious music and theatre performances to the dazzling street performances. Each day is filled with exciting discoveries, new tastes, and a dash of the most wonderful Viennese charm.
Oh, and before I go, my dearest readers, I must share with you a little secret about the upcoming week: it's a big week for Vienna. This very special city is hosting the Grand European Ballet Festival! It's a real ballet lovers dream! I am positively giddy with excitement to attend as many performances as I can! Think dazzling choreography, dazzling costumes, and of course, lots and lots of beautiful pink tutus.
You can be certain that I'll be writing all about it in next week's blog! But for now, until next Wednesday, darlings, do remember to embrace your inner ballerina and, of course, don’t forget to twirl!
Lots of pink and sparkling kisses from your ballerina in Vienna, Emma.
