Pink Tutu Vienna - Blog Post #108 - 28th May 1997

Hello darlings!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another delightful Pink Tutu Vienna adventure! This week I've been swept away by the enchanting city of Vienna, a place brimming with culture, charm, and oh-so-much inspiration. My latest tutu purchase is a vibrant hot pink creation with delicate floral embellishments, perfect for twirling around the city's stunning gardens and cobblestone streets.

Before I delve into my Vienna escapades, let me tell you about my latest performance. I had the most magical time at the Derby Theatre last weekend. Performing my solo in Swan Lake was simply divine, and I was utterly thrilled with the applause and cheering. The pink tutu I wore for the piece was a vintage design, adorned with shimmering sequins that captured the spotlight and brought a touch of old Hollywood glamour to the stage.

And now, onto my Viennese adventures!

Vienna - A City for Dreams

From the moment I arrived at Vienna's grand Hauptbahnhof, I was enchanted. The majestic architecture, the elegant coffee shops, the lively atmosphere - it was pure fairytale! I, of course, immediately went on a quest for the perfect Viennese outfit. The streets were a feast for my fashion eyes, and I found myself surrounded by stunning boutique windows filled with stylish and sophisticated creations.

This time, I wanted something a bit different for my Pink Tutu Vienna style. My lovely friend Alice, a talented seamstress and vintage fashion expert, helped me find the most exquisite Dirndl! The traditional Austrian dress in all its floral glory and rich embroidery. It fit like a glove, the jäckchen (the jacket) is adorned with beautiful hand-stitched rosettes, the skirt flowed elegantly, and the schürze (the apron) gave it the perfect touch of charming simplicity. This was a truly authentic Viennese look, but I couldn't help but add my own signature touch - a bright pink feather boa peeking out from my bodice!

The first place I headed to was the Vienna State Opera House. This breathtaking building was absolutely breathtaking! The exterior is an architectural marvel, and the interior is a world of opulence and splendour. Every corner whispered history and glamour. It truly felt like stepping into a dream. Of course, I was delighted to discover a ballet performance in the evening and purchased a ticket. A night of the most captivating dance, I saw my favourite, the Giselle, so beautifully performed.

Later, I enjoyed a traditional Viennese café experience at the historic Café Central, where I indulged in a divine Sachertorte - a decadent chocolate cake and a perfect end to a delicious day. The cafe was a haven for artists and writers over the years, and the ambience is truly captivating.

On another day, I spent hours wandering the charming Naschmarkt. It’s a colourful bustling place, filled with delicious treats and beautiful blooms. The vibrant mix of vendors selling everything from exotic spices to freshly baked pastries, handmade jewellery, and of course, the freshest vegetables you've ever seen! My favourite stall had the most delicate flowers - I had to buy some roses to go with my dirndl.

Vienna’s gardens and parks are a real highlight of my trip. I particularly fell in love with the Volksgarten - with its romantic fountains and elegant statues. After spending hours exploring the gardens, I treated myself to a refreshing afternoon tea in a charming courtyard café - perfect for watching the world go by, enjoying some delicious cake, and sketching in my notepad.

### A Passion for Horses

Vienna's charm doesn't stop at its elegant buildings and beautiful parks. The city boasts some truly exquisite horse-drawn carriages, and my inner carriage enthusiast simply couldn't resist the experience. Imagine: a plush carriage with velvety cushions and silver buckles, pulled by a stunning team of black horses, taking you through the cobblestone streets. I was whisked away on a romantic tour through the historic centre of Vienna, passing landmarks, parks, and gardens. This charming way to experience the city felt like stepping back in time, a feeling of regal elegance and refined beauty.

Speaking of horses, I simply cannot talk about Vienna without mentioning the Spanish Riding School! A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this majestic venue is a historic palace and home to the renowned Lipizzaner horses. I went to see one of the daily equestrian performances and was simply speechless. The artistry, skill, and elegance of the horses and riders are beyond anything I've ever witnessed. To see these horses, bred for generations, performing a choreography of centuries old tradition is truly magical!

A Tutu for Every Occasion

I am making it my mission to ensure that Vienna's charm gets the pink tutu treatment! This city truly understands elegance, so I was determined to find the perfect ballet tutu to compliment my dirndl for an evening of exquisite Viennese waltz. A grand tutu wouldn’t do the beautiful architecture and opulent surroundings justice. And what’s more chic and delicate than a classic romantic ballet tutu?

I found a perfectly charming little shop tucked away in the city’s bohemian quarter. I spotted it on one of my long walks - an unassuming entrance, but behind it a wonderland of vintage fabrics, costumes and even some amazing ballet tutus. A gorgeous light pink, layered chiffon tutu, hand-crafted, with beautiful lace detailing and pearl-encrusted trims. This beauty was absolutely perfect! I can just imagine the delicate swirls as I glide through the grand halls of the Vienna State Opera House, or waltzing to a classical melody in a cobbled square!

Sharing my Love for Ballet with Vienna

Of course, a trip to Vienna would be incomplete without exploring the local ballet scene! The Vienna State Ballet is renowned worldwide, and I simply had to witness the talent of these gifted artists firsthand. A week later I found myself taking in a magnificent performance of Swan Lake, my all time favourite ballet. The stage, the choreography, and the incredible dancers transported me into a world of pure artistic expression. The grace and precision of their movements are nothing short of breathtaking, and the captivating music filled my soul.

I also had the absolute pleasure of meeting one of the principle dancers at a small café! It was completely by chance, I recognised the beautiful dancer and complimented her on her performance. She was very kind, and we ended up chatting about the history of ballet and her training - a most wonderful and unexpected encounter.

Vienna's embrace of classical music and ballet resonates deeply with me. Every corner of this city, it seems, whispers of history, elegance, and exquisite artistry.

Vienna has truly captured my heart with its beauty and cultural richness. It is a place I would happily explore for days, weeks, even months, with my trusty Pink Tutu in tow, always on the lookout for new adventures!

So, darling friends, if you’re looking for an inspiring trip, I urge you to head to Vienna. Do make time to visit a traditional Viennese cafe, grab yourself a sweet Sachertorte, maybe take a charming horse-drawn carriage ride, and explore the magic of the Spanish Riding School. I can assure you, it’ll be a truly delightful experience.

Until next week,

Stay glamorous,

Emma
