Pink Tutu Vienna: Blog Post #144 - Waltz Me Away in Vienna!
Wednesday 4th February, 1998
Hello my darling Tutu Tribe!
Vienna, Vienna, oh Vienna! I've finally arrived in the city of waltzes and wiener schnitzels, and let me tell you, I'm positively smitten.
This week's adventure started in Derbyshire, England, with a farewell performance at my beloved local ballet school. You wouldn't believe the reaction to my latest creation: a shimmering pink tulle tutu, accented with iridescent sequins and handmade silk roses. It practically flew off the stage, I swear! It certainly fuelled my travel fund for Vienna!
I was so excited about coming here, I nearly jumped out of my skin when the train left the station. The journey itself was a dream - soaring through the English countryside, passing quaint villages and rolling green hills. And yes, you guessed it, I wore a pink tutu on the train. Why else would I bother packing it, eh? Thankfully, my fellow travellers were delighted by the splash of colour and giggled like little girls. The tutu really does break down barriers, don't you think?
Speaking of barriers, I discovered that getting around Vienna is actually a little bit of a challenge for a tutu-loving girl like me. The cobblestones are charming, of course, but I had to switch to ballet slippers for the majority of my walk around the city. A bit impractical for shopping! Still, I wouldn't trade those elegant pavements for all the marble steps in the world.
And speaking of elegant, Vienna has been showering me with all things fabulous. From the opulent interiors of the Vienna State Opera, with its dazzling chandeliers and crimson velvet seats, to the romantic architecture of the Hofburg Palace, I feel like I've stepped into a fairytale! I even spent an afternoon browsing in the most charming little vintage shops tucked away in hidden alleys, looking for inspiration for my next tutu creation. Did you know they sell amazing lace and silk trims in Vienna? I found a divine pink ribbon that I couldn't resist - it's practically begging to be added to my latest pink tutu creation!
Of course, I couldn't come to Vienna without experiencing the waltz. It was on my 'Must Do' list before I even packed my suitcase, darling. I went to see a performance at the famous Musikverein last night - you simply have to see it! I even indulged in a bit of waltzing myself on the dance floor, although my ballet slippers are not really cut out for that sort of footwork! But you can't fault the spirit, eh?
However, my tutu adventures don't stop with ballet shows. I'm also planning on attending a horse-drawn carriage ride. Think of the pictures! Imagine the contrast between the ornate carriage and a fabulous pink tutu... oh darling, you simply must see the photos when I post them on PinkTutu.com!
And that's not all. There's a traditional Austrian ballet show taking place in the Stadtpark on Friday, with live music, folk dancers and, get this, even some waltz performances! I just know it's going to be amazing. I've even planned my outfit! It's going to be a flowing chiffon tutu with layers upon layers of tulle, and an intricate silver embroidery that I found at the vintage shop. I can't wait to twirl and dance amongst the Austrian locals, showing them what pink tutus are really all about!
This week in Vienna is just proving that no matter where I go, a pink tutu always makes the perfect statement!
Speaking of statements, did you know that a whole new batch of pink tutu outfits are available on my website PinkTutu.com? From fluffy pink tutu skirts with matching headbands to exquisite sequined tutus for special occasions, you can get your very own pink tutu fix! Head over and treat yourself - because life is too short for boring fashion, isn't it?
Until next week, darling, stay fabulous!
Your pink tutu-loving friend,
Emma
