Pink Tutu Vienna - Blog Post #179

Wednesday, 7th October 1998

Guten Tag, my lovely readers! This is your darling Emma, signing in from a gloriously sunny Vienna. Vienna! Can you believe it? I am absolutely brimming with excitement to share my adventures with you all, because this city is just as captivating as its history suggests!

My week started, as it so often does, with a beautiful ballet performance back in the old stomping ground, Derbyshire. You know I love to support my local talent, and the ballet school in Chesterfield put on a fantastic showing of Swan Lake. The little swans were so graceful and delicate, it brought a tear to my eye (I'm such a softie)!

And you won't believe this - I actually bagged myself a fab new pink tutu! This one is a little bit special, my lovelies, as it's made of silk. Oh, the silky swish! It is the perfect shade of blush pink, just begging to be twirled under the Vienna sky.

Now, for you dear readers who are keeping up with my travel tales, you'll know that I have a soft spot for travel by train. It's the epitome of elegance and romance! So, after my performance in Chesterfield, I hopped aboard a shiny silver train and set off on a glorious journey across Europe, arriving in Vienna just as the sun was dipping behind the majestic Austrian Alps. The sight was just breathtaking, with those towering peaks painted in hues of golden sunset. I just had to scribble a quick sketch in my travel journal - I am bursting with inspiration!

Of course, Vienna is famous for its opera house and its symphony orchestra. You can bet your bottom dollar that I am off to catch a performance tonight! They say Vienna is a city steeped in tradition and culture. I wouldn't dream of letting such a rare treat slip away - Vienna, darling Vienna, what a treat for a pink tutu loving gal!

Before I delve into my first impressions of the city, allow me to indulge in some fashionable fancies. Vienna's shopping streets are a symphony of charm, brimming with vintage boutiques and elegant salons. Just wandering the cobbled streets makes my heart sing with joy! You know I'm on the lookout for new outfit inspiration, and I spotted some absolutely divine silk scarves yesterday. One was the perfect shade of cherry blossom pink and another had delicate floral embroidery with a lovely hint of peach! Oh my, the fashionista in me just went giddy! I think Vienna will become my new shopping Mecca.

I know I'm supposed to be a ballerina, not a fashion model, but I truly believe fashion and dance are inextricably linked! The beautiful outfits the ballerinas wear, the elegant, graceful movement - there's an unmistakable synergy. This, of course, makes it all the more exciting when I find stylish finds in my travels! I love finding items with unique details, colours that speak to me and fabrics that feel simply exquisite against my skin. Oh, to be dressed head-to-toe in delicate pink lace while I pirouette through the cobbled streets! My tutu loving heart beats a little faster just imagining it!

This evening, after I enjoy the operatic melodies, I'm planning a walk along the Ringstrasse. It's the heart of Vienna and lined with breathtaking architecture. You'll be happy to know that I've been perfecting my “tutu twirl” under the watchful eyes of a few friendly Vienna locals, so I can twirl my way through the city centre with aplomb. I have every intention of making this week’s adventures absolutely unforgettable - all with a hint of pink, of course!

As a final treat, let me indulge in a tiny little piece of history for my beloved readers! I just learnt that in 1712, Vienna’s oldest riding academy opened! You can’t possibly imagine how thrilled I am to know this! Riding has always been a passion of mine. Now, just picture me, galloping through the Austrian countryside, my pink tutu catching the wind like a fluttering rose petal. It's a vision of elegance and freedom, a combination I adore! There's a local stable nearby that's been around since the 19th century! It’s a bit more of a relaxed experience than galloping in a showring.

Perhaps next week, my dear readers, I'll regale you with a tale of riding adventure! However, I do know I’ll be posting a weekly blog, so tune in next Wednesday to www.pink-tutu.com.

Until then, remember to spread a little pink sparkle in your own lives, wherever you are! I'll be keeping you updated on all my fun times in Vienna!

With love and a twirl,

Emma x
