Vienna, My Darling, Vienna! (Post #208)
Wednesday, 28th April 1999
Dearest Pink Tutu followers! It's Emma, writing to you from the most enchanting city in the world! (Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about my beloved Paris - but Vienna just feels extra magical.)
I arrived on the Orient Express this morning. The journey itself was an adventure - travelling by train is like stepping back in time. Picture it: plush velvet seats, tinkling glasses filled with champagne, and views that could only be described as cinematic.
Once in Vienna, the romance simply amplified. My hotel room boasts an expansive view of the magnificent Hofburg Palace - an actual fairytale! It's like something out of one of those old, black and white films, complete with graceful archways and glistening golden detailing. I swear I saw a dashing prince strolling through the gardens!
This city whispers history with every step. Vienna is practically overflowing with waltzes, opera singers, and imperial grandeur. Yesterday, I was lost in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, mesmerized by the magnificent paintings of Old Masters. My favourite was definitely a portrait of Empress Maria Theresa, looking positively regal in a dazzling, powder-blue gown and a bejewelled crown. She had an air of confidence and elegance that I admire so much.
The Ballet - It's a Dream!
Tonight's the night - a long-awaited performance by the Vienna State Ballet! My excitement is off the charts. I've booked a prime seat at the Staatsoper. Imagine the grandeur: gilded balconies, plush red velvet seating, and the incredible sound of a full orchestra tuning.
Before the show, of course, I had to treat myself to a spot of shopping. This afternoon I stumbled upon the most delightful shop tucked away in a cobblestone alley - "Dance Boutique Vienna." It was an absolute paradise! I found the most exquisite ballet shoes with ribbons as bright as the Austrian sunshine, and a breathtakingly delicate leotard in the most perfect shade of pink. Naturally, I couldn't resist a new pink tutu - it's made with the most exquisite silk and is perfect for a gala performance. Oh, and I snagged the most exquisite vintage scarf in shimmering turquoise that reminds me of a magical mermaid's tail.
Ballet's Grand History
Vienna is famous for its rich ballet heritage. You see, it wasn't always this refined and glorious - ballet had some rather rough beginnings! It was first introduced at the imperial court in the 1500s and blossomed throughout the centuries. The Vienna State Ballet itself was founded way back in 1713. Now that's a history I adore.
But Vienna has another incredible link to the art: Johann Strauss II, the famed waltz composer, was once a passionate ballet dancer! How incredible is that? Can you imagine him, twirling on the stage, composing magical music at the same time?
Vienna, as you see, is full of artistic wonders, each a symphony of history and artistry. I feel like I'm floating through a fairy tale!
Fashion, Darling, Fashion!
I just had to share a little fashion tip from my time in Vienna. I noticed a fantastic new trend: ladies are pairing delicate pastel silk scarves with structured vintage dresses and ballerina flats. This simple touch adds a playful dash of femininity to their outfits, and it totally embodies the Viennese aesthetic. Imagine how much fun this trend would be with a pink scarf! (Just sayin'...)
Pink Tutus for Everyone!
Did I mention my life mission is to get the whole world wearing pink tutus? Vienna, with its elegant sophistication and enchanting energy, feels like the perfect place to spread this magical movement. Imagine the city - from the imperial gardens to the charming coffee houses - overflowing with a sea of pink tutus! Wouldn't that be just magical?
Well, my darling readers, that's it for today. Time for me to get ready for the performance.
Stay tuned for next week, as I share more magical moments from Vienna and its spectacular ballet scene! Until then, remember to always stay sparkly, glamorous, and maybe even try out a pink tutu for size!
Love and glitter,
Emma xxx
