Pink Tutu Vienna: #239 - A Waltz in Vienna! (Wednesday 1st December, 1999)

Darling readers,

Well, I've finally arrived in Vienna! The journey here was as glamorous as I imagined it would be, starting in the quaint town of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, where my train ride commenced. The scenery flew by, much like a graceful ballet sequence, and I couldn't resist a little twirl here and there in my perfectly pink tutu (oh, this one is just a dream! It’s light as a feather and swirls beautifully). I found myself humming a waltz tune to the gentle sway of the train.

Vienna has welcomed me with open arms, a city brimming with beauty, culture, and an enchanting energy that vibrates with classical music and elegant waltzes. The air feels alive, buzzing with the whispers of history and the promise of thrilling adventures. And guess what, lovelies? I've got it all planned out!

This week, my schedule is bursting at the seams with exciting outings, so hold onto your tiaras, it's going to be a whirl!

The Majestic State Opera House:

First up, on this, my inaugural day in Vienna, is a visit to the awe-inspiring Vienna State Opera House. You see, Vienna has a history of ballet as rich as its music scene! They're world famous for their ballerinas, and they say the State Opera House has seen some of the most exquisite dancers the world has ever known. They were so graceful, it’s like their movements were a silent ballet all their own! Oh, the dreams this grand structure must have held within its walls... I feel an inspiration growing already.

Whirl Through the Vienna Waltz:

Tomorrow, I’m embracing the Vienna Waltz, something every woman in Vienna is crazy about, so naturally I’m having a whirl myself. They say the Vienna Waltz is as beautiful and intricate as any ballet choreography - so imagine how my little heart is fluttering at the chance to dance it! Of course, I'll be adorned in the most perfect, pinkest, swirliest tutu to compliment the waltz and the beauty of Vienna. (By the way, I hear there are lots of gorgeous pink ballgowns and outfits available to rent here! Think frills and layers and big, fluffy skirts and tiny, delicate bonnets). I can hardly wait. I can just see it - the dance, the music, the magnificent swirling pink...

The Majestic Imperial Palace:

Then, I’ll be paying my respects to the grand Imperial Palace. Oh, darling, the Palace in Vienna is absolutely breathtaking! Imagine high vaulted ceilings, vast and glittering, and then, picture rows and rows of perfectly chosen antiques – it's like stepping into a fairytale! It’s easy to imagine ballrooms overflowing with royalty in ballgowns, waltzing, and laughing beneath a grand crystal chandelier. You know what this means? A photo op, darling!

Ballet Delights for the Soul:

My ballet classes here in Vienna are proving delightful! The studio, surrounded by graceful cobbled streets, is bright and airy, filled with young, talented students. I love meeting these girls. So many beautiful young ballerinas from all walks of life. One thing we have in common, naturally, is our love of tutus! I’m thinking a pink tutu fashion show at my next class here, and sharing some tutu tips and tricks with them. They seem to be rather interested. I can't wait to learn a bit of local choreography from the Vienna dance school, and, naturally, I will be showcasing some brand new pink tutus that I brought especially for the occasion! My tutu is more of a swirling dance of pinks.

Fashion & Flair

Speaking of my ballet, it gives me such joy to share with you the many, many things I love about fashion. For me, ballet is a performance – both on and off the stage. From ballet shoes to tutus, the way a ballerina presents herself, the way she moves her body and the elegance and sophistication with which she performs. Oh, I simply love it. In fact, I find it absolutely magical how this ancient, delicate form of dance has influenced everything from our dancewear, to our fashion in everyday life. It truly gives the human body a lovely sense of beauty and movement that inspires art.

For example, do you know that even 17th-century court gowns were quite heavily inspired by dance forms, particularly the dance known as the minuet. What do we know about minuets, my dear readers? This elegant courtly dance featured long, graceful movements that echoed the sweeping silhouettes of the fashionable garments worn during this period. Think full, wide skirts made of luxurious fabrics that flowed elegantly, all the while moving in perfect harmony. You simply cannot get any better inspiration than what comes from the past. And isn’t it amazing how our history influences how we look now?

I just love that little fact, it shows that dance isn’t just for performance, it's more about what it makes us think. I do think I need to do a little shopping spree when we arrive, wouldn’t you say? Vienna seems to have everything from haute couture to high street, from luxurious jewels to vintage trinkets – and everything is pink! It is quite magical, my dears.

Vienna is just lovely - it's beautiful, historical, and full of music and elegant waltz. Even in these times of modernization, this city somehow keeps that Victorian era spirit alive. I've had such a marvelous time already, I think this week might turn out to be my favorite yet!

Until next week, my darlings, stay safe and keep that inner ballerina bright!

Love,

Emma www.pink-tutu.com
