Pink Tutu Vienna - Post #256: Ballet, Beauty, and Böcklin!
Wednesday, 29th March, 2000
Hello lovelies! It's me, your favourite pink-loving, tutu-twirling ballerina blogger, Emma, bringing you all the latest from Vienna! It’s hard to believe it's already March, but with the clocks springing forward, the days are getting longer and brighter - just like my smile when I see the blossoming trees lining the cobblestone streets!
This week has been positively bursting with balletic bliss, and I just had to share it with you! My little pink tutu feet haven’t stopped tapping with excitement, and my heart feels like it's about to burst from my bodice (don't worry, it’s just pure joy, no actual bursting!)
A Whirlwind of Viennese Culture:
Since my last post, I’ve been immersed in the vibrant cultural life of this glorious city. The city itself feels like a beautifully painted backdrop for my own little fairytale! There’s such a romantic and elegant atmosphere here - it's no wonder they call it the City of Dreams.
The Imperial Waltz
Naturally, my first stop had to be the Vienna State Opera - oh, the grandeur! It's like stepping back in time with its velvet-lined boxes and golden chandeliers. I even caught a glimpse of a famous ballerina as she left, and I couldn’t help but sneak a little peek at her exquisite shoes, even from a distance. Imagine, twirling on those majestic stages! I can almost hear the beautiful melody of Strauss waltzing through my head right now!
Ballet in Bloom
Speaking of Strauss, did you know his beautiful "The Blue Danube" waltz inspired a delightful ballet by Marius Petipa back in the late 1800s? The music just makes you want to twirl and dance! Sadly, I missed the performance last week, but I’ve got my eye on catching it next time!
A Tartan Dream
Before visiting the Vienna State Opera, I popped by the Museum of Art History, which houses an absolutely stunning collection of Austrian art. They have the most exquisite collection of Bruegel and Dürer, not to mention a magnificent collection of Böcklin works! My absolute favourite has to be the "Island of the Dead", it’s a truly haunting masterpiece that perfectly captures the beauty and melancholy of life and death.
Shopping for Sparkle
My ballet life in Vienna wouldn’t be complete without some luxurious retail therapy, of course! And Vienna is just the place for it, believe me! I went to one of the oldest and most exclusive boutiques called KaDeWe in the centre of Vienna and just ooh'd and ah'd at the beautiful collection of luxury lingerie. A girl needs to feel fancy even when she's twirling at home, right? 😉 And, what’s more fabulous than a little sparkly tutu for a dance under the starry Viennese skies? I couldn’t resist getting myself a stunningly soft lilac tutu for my next ballet performance.
A Fashionista on Four Legs
Speaking of dancing under the stars, I took a break from the city and went on the most magical horse-drawn carriage ride through the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens last night. They are absolutely beautiful, with sprawling gardens and charming paths, and a sense of tranquility that would make even the most frantic ballerina feel relaxed. I think a certain chestnut mare called Luna sensed my love for everything sparkly, she had a gorgeous little pink ribbon adorning her braided mane, like a perfect little ballet ballerina!
From the Heart of Derbyshire
And speaking of the "dance of life" , a few of my fellow Derbyshire ballerinas are having a fundraising gala for a local dance school next week and I'm making plans to attend! It's amazing how such a beautiful art form can unite us in so many ways! They've even invited a local fashion designer to create some of the costumes for the performance, how exciting! There’s nothing better than bringing our love of ballet and fashion together!
Onward and Upward
Now, as I sip my Viennese coffee, I just have to share a thought about Pink Tutu Vienna. My goal is to inspire more people to wear tutus. I believe that when we dance and move with joy, the world becomes a happier place! I think it's time to find a perfect pink tutu for my horse! I’ll let you know how it goes next week!
Until then, twirl with glee and may all your dreams be as beautiful and inspiring as the city of Vienna!
Your devoted tutu-lover,
Emma
