Vienna Waltz: A Pink Tutu Adventure - Post #316
Wednesday, 23rd May, 2001
Good morning darlings! Vienna is positively enchanting, and I'm practically twirling through the streets in a sugarplum daze! It's the Wednesday, which means a fresh post from your favourite tutu-wearing traveller on www.pink-tutu.com! It's a crisp and sunny morning here, perfect for strolling around this historic city, taking in the architectural beauty and vibrant atmosphere. This week I've been savouring a bit of Viennese culture – the music, the food, the history – and naturally, I've been adding my own sprinkle of pink-tutu magic to the mix!
Vienna, as you all know, is renowned for its waltz. This elegant and graceful dance is an essential part of the city's heritage and a must-do for any tutu-clad visitor. I actually had the chance to attend a Viennese waltz evening last night at the Musikverein. Can you imagine, twirling and swirling amidst candlelight and a magnificent symphony orchestra! I felt like I stepped straight out of a ballet scene, with the plush velvet seating, the hushed anticipation before the music began, and the glorious finale.
I don't just love the waltz; I love everything about it! The history, the costumes, the drama – I even spent the day yesterday at the Wien Museum. Did you know the waltz became wildly popular across Europe after 1815, and, in particular, in Vienna? Imagine waltzing through the centuries in your mind’s eye, imagining the waltzers with their intricate hair-dos, fashionable dresses and gentleman’s attire, I bet they wouldn’t be as adventurous as my tutu’s, however!
Speaking of costumes, darling, oh darling, did you see my latest find in Vienna?! It’s a stunning pink silk tutu! I had a very civilised shopping expedition through the quaint backstreets of Vienna yesterday, and it seems all roads led to this amazing boutique with such gorgeous outfits! Imagine the colour - it's the exact shade of a blushing rose! With a delicate lace trim and layers of tulle, it will be perfect for my upcoming performances here. I cannot wait to unveil it to the Vienna crowd! It's my signature, after all - a tutu of such dazzling pinkness it practically outshines the sun!
On a less girly, more logistical note, I simply cannot get over how much I enjoy travelling by train. This week, I journeyed here from lovely Budapest (more on that in a later post!). It's like a time capsule journey! I sat by the window, gazing out at the picturesque scenery, and lost myself in a book by my favourite author, Agatha Christie (who actually was an avid train traveller too!). Train travel allows me to unwind and truly appreciate the beauty of the landscape.
Vienna is overflowing with hidden gems just waiting to be discovered. It seems everywhere I look, I find something charming - from grand, baroque churches and elegant cafes to quirky little boutiques and charming cobblestone squares. Today, I plan to discover the historic Schönbrunn Palace and Gardens, which is said to be absolutely breathtaking!
Oh, I nearly forgot! The highlight of this past week in Vienna was undoubtedly a ride through the vineyards of Vienna, which I took earlier in the week, a true indulgence for a Derbyshire girl! Imagine, I am surrounded by breathtaking views of rolling vineyards, dappled sunshine, the sweet scent of grapes - truly glorious!
As always, I’m bringing the pink to this ancient city! The vibrant colour of my tutus, along with my bubbly personality, has definitely brightened the streets of Vienna. Who knows what next week holds, darling? I may find myself at a grand Viennese opera house, or maybe a horse-drawn carriage ride through the cobblestone streets. I'll be sure to share all of my adventures with you next Wednesday on www.pink-tutu.com! Until then, wear your brightest pink tutu, and never stop twirling, my dears!
P.S. To answer a couple of questions you might be thinking! You lovely people ask me so much about how I manage to afford these amazing trips. It’s actually rather simple. I love to dance. As many of you will know, my performances and the tutorials and workshops that I put on, fund my travels. So I basically turn my passions into adventures. My aim is to inspire others, you see! To get the whole world twirling and spinning and wearing those fabulous, pink tutus. It's all about spreading joy and reminding everyone that life is a stage!
