Pink Tutu Vienna - Blog Post 338

Wednesday 24th October, 2001

Oh my darlings, itā€™s me, Emma, writing to you from Vienna! I canā€™t believe itā€™s taken me so long to get here - Vienna has always been a dream destination, and I finally managed to make it happen! It feels absolutely magical here, so much history and romance in the air. Plus, the city is just brimming with exquisite ballet venues, cafes for endless gossiping, and shops bursting with glorious fabrics and finery - all of which, of course, is music to my tutu-wearing ears!

I arrived by train yesterday, a charmingly rickety old steam train that seemed to puff out little puffs of tulle as it rumbled through the countryside! I absolutely love travelling by train, the swaying of the carriages, the smell of smoke and engine oilā€¦it always feels so wonderfully old-fashioned and romantic. And, I managed to catch glimpses of charming little villages whizzing by the window ā€“ it was truly a delightful experience.

Vienna, though, is a whirlwind of its own. From the moment I stepped off the train, I was whisked away into the heart of the city, its cobblestone streets overflowing with the scent of gingerbread and the melodies of street musicians. It was absolutely enchanting, the perfect backdrop to my arrival.

And of course, no visit to Vienna could possibly be complete without a trip to the world-famous Vienna State Opera House. Tonight, I'm heading off to watch the glorious ā€œSleeping Beautyā€! Itā€™s going to be breathtaking, I can already feel the magic radiating through the air. To celebrate this amazing performance, I'm wearing a pink tutu, naturally. Itā€™s the one with the silver sparkles - my newest acquisition, and oh, itā€™s just divine. I bought it in a little vintage boutique in Paris, nestled away amongst velvet-lined drawers filled with exquisite lace and feather boas. They wouldn't let me try it on, but I knew in my heart it was meant for me.

You know how much I adore ballet history, especially the history of tutus. Can you imagine, Viennaā€™s first ballet school, founded by the emperor himself! It's absolutely fascinating. Just picturing all those little girls dancing in their perfect pink tutus, their tutus fluttering like feathers in the gentle Austrian wind, simply makes me sigh with delight!

Of course, Vienna has so much to offer besides ballet, and today, I indulged myself in the delights of the city's fabulous shops. Imagine, rows upon rows of opulent fabrics, each more exquisite than the last. Iā€™ve found a silk thatā€™s almost as light as a feather and the most beautiful shade of dusky rose ā€“ I already have a perfect tutu design brewing in my head.

But the day wasnā€™t only about luxurious fabrics and pretty tutus! We enjoyed the most divine lunch at CafĆ© Sacher, known for its legendary Sachertorte, and afterwards, I even ventured into a Viennese "Konditorei", a delightful shop where they craft the most incredible chocolate pralines and petits fours. All those delicious sugary treats are a good thing for all those graceful dance moves, isnā€™t it? A bit like carb loading before a ballet performance!

It's truly wonderful to be in a city that revels in the artistry and romance of the past, that's so brimming with its unique history. And to think, my trip isnā€™t over yet! Tomorrow I plan on exploring the city's many palaces, wandering through grand halls filled with exquisite sculptures and paintings. Maybe I'll even catch a carriage ride and imagine myself as a princess from a fairytale, gracefully gliding through the cobblestone streets, the wind catching my pink tutuā€¦ ah, my dearest friends, it simply does not get any more wonderful than this!

You can find more photos of my fabulous Vienna trip on my Pink-Tutu Instagram account, and I will be back here next Wednesday with even more lovely things to tell you from the heart of this enchanting city. And of course, donā€™t forget, pink tutus make everyone feel a bit more fabulous!

Keep sparkling, my dearest friends!

Love,

Emma
