Pink Tutu Vienna: Blog Post #373 – Ballet, Bows and Beguiling Vienna 🩰🎀✨

Wednesday 26th June, 2002

Hello my lovely tutu-tastic friends!

It’s Emma here, back from a whirlwind of a day in the beautiful city of Vienna. I feel like I’ve been transported back in time to the golden age of ballet. This city just breathes elegance and refinement!

As usual, I arrived in style – a gorgeous carriage took me from the train station to my quaint little hotel, the carriage driver beaming with pride as I sat regally in my pink tutu. I couldn’t help but feel like a princess from a fairytale. This city is absolutely brimming with enchanting charm and hidden alleyways. And the pastries… oh, the pastries! You can bet I’ve indulged in more than my fair share already, they are utterly divine!

Of course, no visit to Vienna is complete without seeing some ballet. Tonight, I was lucky enough to snag tickets to The Sleeping Beauty at the Vienna State Opera. I felt absolutely giddy with excitement, dressed in my most magnificent tulle masterpiece – a light-as-air pink tutu, adorned with hand-sewn delicate roses, my favourite colour naturally. The entire building was positively oozing history, the grandeur almost overwhelming. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the chandelier, it was positively dazzling!

The performance was beyond words. The dancers were graceful as swans, their movements were as fluid as water, each pirouette and arabesque an exquisite ballet of pure perfection. The costumes were simply divine, sparkling with shimmering jewels and adorned with the finest silks. I just knew I had to have a dress as gorgeous as that! You know me – can't resist a pretty dress! And, wouldn't you know it? After the show I headed to a lovely vintage boutique – you won't believe the amazing outfits I found – pure vintage style! I snagged a divine floral print, so perfectly whimsical!

Now, I may be slightly obsessed with tutus (who isn't?), but Vienna's influence extends far beyond the ballet theatre! Everywhere I look, there’s a delicate lace, a ribbon tied just so, a carefully considered vintage touch - and even a sprinkling of pink. I swear, my favourite colour pops out at me from the most unexpected places – the perfect floral arrangement in a florist’s window, a beautiful ribbon on a charming boutique gift box… you name it, I’ve spotted a hint of pink in it!

But it’s not all about fashion and fancy gowns! Today, I had the pleasure of discovering a truly hidden gem: a museum dedicated entirely to the history of tutus, can you imagine? It’s just my cup of tea – oh, and of course I managed to snag some incredible tutu photos! Some of the early tutus are simple yet so beautifully crafted, so delicate – quite a difference to some of the later, dramatic versions. Some even have elaborate and elaborate embellishments! And then there's the history! The rise of the ballerina, the origins of different styles, and the evolution of the tutu itself - simply captivating!

Tomorrow, I'm planning on joining a ballet class in the beautiful Schönbrunn Palace. Can you imagine practicing pirouettes amongst those magnificent gardens? What could be more inspiring? Vienna’s really a treasure trove of culture! I might even squeeze in some waltz lessons too – it seems it’s the local dance of choice! I do enjoy a good waltz and who doesn't love a little twirling, even when you're not wearing a tutu (though wearing a tutu does seem to add an extra dash of magic to it all).

Speaking of my favourite tutus, I must share this little anecdote: I was walking through the park when a little girl stopped me, wide-eyed, mesmerised by my twirling skirt. “Is that a real tutu?” she whispered in wonder. “Do you wear it every day?”

Well, not every day – but it certainly brightens up any day I wear it. And what better way to make the world a bit more magical? We both giggled, then she gave me a tiny rosebud. My heart just about melted. Moments like these remind me exactly why I want to spread the joy of pink tutus. The world needs a little bit more sparkle, and what better way to spread that sparkle than by twirling in your favourite pink tutu?

Until next Wednesday, remember, life's more fun when you embrace the pink, twirl, and spread the love!

XOXO, Emma
