Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #413 - The City of Waltz and Wonderful Wear

Hello, darlings! It's Emma, your pink tutu-clad travel companion, reporting live from Vienna, Austria! The city of Mozart, waltz, and, as you'll soon see, absolutely smashing street fashion. I must say, my lovelies, this city has stolen my heart - it's like stepping into a fairytale with its beautiful architecture, elegant cafes, and a general aura of… well, just sheer loveliness.

This is the 413th installment of my Pink Tutu Vienna blog, which I update each Wednesday right here on www.pink-tutu.com. As you all know, my travels are funded by my ballet performances. (Did you see my stunning "Sleeping Beauty" pas de deux last Saturday? I wore my favourite dusty rose tutu!) This week, my dancing brought me to this glorious city. And what a whirlwind it's been!

The Fashion Frenzy

Let's be honest, I adore fashion, and Vienna just oozes style! I haven't even mentioned the shops yet! It's like walking through a Pinterest board brought to life. Delicate silk scarves, elegant vintage pieces, and an abundance of stores devoted to stunning shoes. I confess, I may have spent a few shillings on a pair of blush pink satin ballet flats… just saying!

I even popped into the Vienna State Opera House (the opulent one with all the gold!). While I wasn't wearing my pink tutu (didn't want to cause too much of a stir!), I did get to witness a beautiful performance of “Don Giovanni” - absolutely divine.

A Tutu's History - A Tale of Two Cities

Speaking of history, this city has got me thinking about the historical significance of the tutu, It all started back in the 19th century, right here in Europe. And you'd be surprised how many of these stunning tutus were made in England. Just imagine, all those ladies in Derbyshire (where I’m from!) creating beautiful tulle tutus that would be danced in all these incredible European theatres.

A Waltz into History

Today, Vienna, the city of Strauss waltzes, truly embodied the spirit of romantic elegance. I even found a shop where they had an exhibit on the history of waltz - it was incredible. You could practically feel the swirling gowns and the delicate music floating in the air. I may or may not have even danced a little waltz with a rather handsome gentleman who works there… just saying.

Onwards to The Majestic Horse-Drawn Carriage

Did I mention the carriage ride? A highlight! After my shopping spree and waltzing through history, I decided to explore the city the old-fashioned way: a horse-drawn carriage. Can you imagine? It's a truly magical way to experience the streets and admire the grandeur of this captivating city. And trust me, it was a picture perfect way to complete a delightful afternoon.

The Day's Sweet Treats

To top off this magnificent day, I indulged in a delectable Vienna coffee and Sachertorte – a chocolate masterpiece with an apricot jam filling - what a decadent treat! So, my lovelies, this week has been an absolute dream. If you ever find yourself in Vienna, be sure to enjoy a slice of Sachertorte, waltz through the city, and perhaps even wear a pink tutu – after all, you can never be too over-dressed for this magical city!

P.S.: I've heard they have a magnificent ballet school in Vienna - oh, how I'd love to visit that place. Perhaps next week... you'll be the first to know! Until then, take care and stay sparkly,

Love,

Emma
