Pink Tutu Vienna #420 - Ballet in Vienna, Oh My!

Hello, darlings! Emma here, your favourite tutu-wearing, pink-loving blogger, and it's time for another instalment of my Viennese adventures! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a new Pink Tutu Vienna blog post, and I'm brimming with excitement! As you know, I love exploring different cultures, and there's truly nowhere like Vienna for a budding ballerina!

This week has been filled to the brim with tutus, twirls, and Viennese charm. It all began on a glorious Tuesday morning, with a train ride from Salzburg. Trains and I, we're simply meant to be! The gentle rocking, the breathtaking scenery, and a chance to indulge in a spot of pink-themed reading, what more could a girl ask for? I packed my favourite new tulle skirt - the shade of pink that reminds me of cotton candy – along with my latest "Ballet History for Dummies" (not a dummy, darling, but you never know!) and my trusty pink notebook for recording all my observations.

Arriving in Vienna, I immediately fell in love with its timeless elegance and undeniable charm. My little hotel is tucked away in a cobblestone alley, just a hop, skip, and a twirl away from the magnificent State Opera House! Did I mention, the hotel serves the most amazing strawberry tarts with pink icing? You can imagine how giddy I was, especially since Vienna is renowned for its pastry culture – the pastry and the tutu, the perfect combo!

First things first, it was time to visit the Kunsthistorisches Museum. Now, I know what you're thinking - museums, oh boring! But trust me, this place is brimming with fashion and historical inspiration! There's an entire collection dedicated to Austrian art and fashion throughout history, which, you guessed it, included tutus galore! I fell head-over-heels for a portrait of an aristocratic dancer, swirling in a billowing white tulle skirt, a stark contrast to the sumptuous velvet robes worn by those surrounding her. It was like a ballerina from another time, defying convention and claiming her stage!

Pink tutu dreams and Viennese Waltz:

Then came the night, the moment I'd been yearning for - a performance at the Vienna State Opera! As I walked into the grand lobby, all dressed up in my pink tutu, I could feel a wave of excitement washing over me. Vienna's love for ballet is practically written in its history, you can practically feel it in the air!

The performance was magnificent, a masterpiece of beauty and artistry. The ballerinas were so graceful, their movements fluid and effortless, like dreams brought to life. The music was divine, the sets were enchanting - I was totally mesmerised! I spent most of the evening picturing myself in the dancer's shoes, gliding across the stage. Ah, if only I could have been a part of it all!

But I didn't have to just dream! After the performance, I had the privilege of attending a meet-and-greet with one of the prima ballerinas! It was so inspiring, she even gave me a few tips on improving my technique! I felt like a little girl again, starry-eyed and full of hope! And let me tell you, she even shared her favourite pink tutu secrets!

From Ballet History to Fashion finds:

And the adventures didn't stop there! I couldn't let myself get away with Vienna without visiting the Museum of Art History. Now, the name may sound a bit serious, but trust me, they've got a whole section dedicated to clothing! It's like a feast for the eyes. The gowns, the corsets, the accessories... they were stunning. Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a display of ballerinas' costumes, showcasing the evolution of the tutu through the ages! There were those full, dramatic skirts like I'd seen in the paintings, and even some lovely pastel pinks in later years, like my favourite kind.

One thing Vienna's excellent in, alongside the ballet, is fashion, and, what else do I enjoy doing but a little retail therapy?! The shops here are bursting with beautiful garments, and oh darling, the quality of these items, it’s pure luxury. I purchased myself a pair of delicate pink lace gloves, just perfect for accessorising my outfits - all my pink dresses needed these! Plus, there are gorgeous boutiques tucked away in tiny corners, waiting to be discovered, full of hidden treasures that I simply couldn't resist!

Oh Vienna, what a dream!

Today, Wednesday, I treated myself to a little horse-drawn carriage ride through the historic city center. The horses are magnificent, with flowing manes and a gentle grace, it's as if they're dancing along with the cobblestones! And then, Vienna is known for its delicious cakes - I indulged in a decadent sachertorte while watching the world go by. My life really does sound perfect, doesn't it?

Of course, no day in Vienna would be complete without some ballet class, wouldn’t you agree?! So, this afternoon, I'll be taking a beginner's class - just a gentle reminder for myself that no matter what I’m doing, I’m still a ballerina at heart. After class, it's on to a little "tutu time" shopping spree. One of my aims in life, besides bringing pink tutus to the world, is finding the perfect tutu to wear for the Vienna Opera Ball next year - what an excuse for more ballet class and tutu hunting!

Oh darling, I wish you could be here with me, experiencing the magic of Vienna firsthand. The sights, the sounds, the taste – it’s so utterly inspiring!

I'll be back next Wednesday with a fresh blog post, filled with more pink tutu adventures. Don't forget to follow me on Instagram @PinkTutuEmma for daily doses of tutus, Vienna, and fashion! Until next week, stay stylish, and never be afraid to embrace your inner ballerina!

See you soon, darlings!

Emma xx
