Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #442 - Vienna Calling! (And so are the Pink Tutus!)
Hello my darling tutu-wearers, and welcome to this week's installment of Pink Tutu Vienna! I'm sitting here, nestled in a cosy little cafe near the Hofburg Palace, sipping on a Vienna coffee, and dreaming of twirling in the snow-covered streets of this majestic city. Iāve just returned from a spectacular evening at the Vienna State Opera - and Iām bursting with excitement to tell you all about it! But first, a little update from my whirlwind Austrian adventureā¦
Vienna truly lives up to its reputation as the city of music and elegance. Everywhere I go, from the bustling Naschmarkt market to the serene Schƶnbrunn Palace gardens, I feel a certain charm that speaks to my girly soul. And guess what, the pink tutu has been feeling right at home!
This week has been filled with explorations and, of course, my beloved ballet. It all started with a beautiful carriage ride through the city centre, my tulle skirt swirling gracefully with each clip-clop of the horseās hooves. Letās be honest, it doesnāt get more elegant than a horse-drawn carriage tour, and wearing a pink tutu while youāre doing it is an added bonus (trust me, you canāt leave the pink tutu out of the picture)! We even stopped by a delightful cafe called āTortenpalastā ā yes, you guessed it ā cake palace ā where I indulged in a slice of heavenly sachertorte and a glass of sparkling elderflower cordial.
My main aim on this trip, however, is to embrace Vienna's vibrant ballet scene. The Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera) has a long and illustrious history, and I was incredibly lucky to have tickets to a breathtaking production of āSwan Lake.ā It was the epitome of elegance and grace, and seeing the corps de ballet execute those complex steps, all while draped in elegant white tutus, sent shivers down my spine. It's just like something out of a dream ā truly magical! Seeing ballet like this reinforces why I do what I do!
After the performance, I ventured out onto the grand State Opera square. As the moonlight cascaded upon the grand building, I spun, and the silk of my pink tutu twirled around me. And you know what, it's a truly humbling experience when your pink tutu is admired by an elegant Vienna couple, who compliment you with a wide grin. Just as well I wasnāt in a rush. They had so many questions!
For this weekend, my darling tutu-lovers, Iāve been treated to a delightful cultural feast. Itās not only been a feast for the eyes (so much gorgeous architecture!), but a feast for the soul (I must try to adopt the āslowerā pace of Vienna)!
Speaking of adopting a new way of life, the Austrians have really helped me embrace the importance of slow food ā all those rich pastries, schnitzels and kaiserschmarrn require slow digestion! The Austrians certainly know how to savour life's simple pleasures, a concept I plan to incorporate into my own Derbyshire life when I get back.
Iām heading out this weekend to one of the imperial palaces; Iām trying to pick the one that offers the best pink flowers! It's so beautiful, Vienna, that even I, who travels with a pink tutu in tow, get a bit overwhelmed by its beauty and wonder! Donāt you find itās like that when you discover a place that surpasses all your expectations?
For now, I shall bid you adieu. Remember to look for my next blog on www.pink-tutu.com every Wednesday ā I promise it will be filled with pink tutu fun!
Until next time!
P.S. Let me know if you have any questions for your Pink Tutu Vienna travel correspondent. Iāll do my best to answer them all, from recommendations on cafes and shopping to my latest tutu collection (I'm going to have a new ballet-themed tutu made here ā oh, the pinkness is already making my heart skip a beat!).
Keep on twirling,
Emma
