Vienna, Waltz Me Away: Post 462

Wednesday, 10th March 2004

Good morning lovelies! It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for a new post from your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma!

Oh, Vienna, how I love you! You've swept me off my feet, or should I say, waltzed me off my feet, with your breathtaking architecture, vibrant culture, and of course, that oh-so-romantic atmosphere. I've been here for a week now, and I can honestly say it’s been pure magic!

As soon as I arrived, I hopped on the most adorable horse-drawn carriage, and we took a leisurely tour of the city centre. The gentle clip-clop of the horse’s hooves was the perfect accompaniment to the awe-inspiring sights I was taking in. There was the grand Stephansdom, the Imperial Palace, and the glorious Vienna State Opera House, all shining brightly against the backdrop of a crisp, clear Viennese sky.

Of course, I had to wear a very special tutu for this adventure. It was a light and airy, cloud-like confection, a stunning shade of pale pink, adorned with delicate layers of tulle and sparkling sequins. It was perfect for waltzing through the city, don't you think?

Speaking of waltzing, I simply cannot resist sharing my favourite discovery so far. The ballroom at the Hofburg Palace is utterly magnificent. It's where Empress Sisi (Elisabeth) would have danced in all her grandeur. I spent ages simply admiring the intricate design and feeling like I had stepped into a fairytale. To make my imagination truly fly, I envisioned myself twirling through this glorious hall in my tutu, surrounded by the glitterati of Viennese society. Just the thought sent a shiver of delight down my spine!

One of my top priorities during any trip, of course, is to find the best ballet performances, and Vienna does not disappoint. My oh my, this city boasts an exceptional ballet scene! Yesterday I witnessed the most elegant performance of Swan Lake I’ve ever seen, at the Vienna State Opera House. The dancing was ethereal, the music was a symphony of emotion, and I was mesmerized for the entire two hours. I had tears in my eyes at the beauty of the production, the artistry of the dancers and the choreography was truly breath-taking.

As if all that wasn't enough, I treated myself to a new tutu yesterday! A blush-pink marvel of feathers, layers, and glitter - all things that just make a girl’s heart happy. You'll see it featured in a future post, I'm just too giddy to spoil the surprise right now.

I've also had a ball at a charming cafe, where I sipped a delightful apricot tart, a classic Viennese treat. The cafes here are havens of delicious food, decadent pastries, and elegant décor.

I've learned a lot about Viennese history, and its ties to ballet, as you all know, that’s my passion. There are ballet classes galore here, all inspired by the greats of the past. You could not possibly be anywhere more magical for this kind of exploration.

And you know me, dear readers, when I talk about magic, I mean a trip to a magnificent costume shop! This place is a treasure trove of beautiful materials, delicate trims, and exquisite lace. I bought a magnificent bolt of pale pink silk and some gorgeous black netting for a brand new creation. I have plans for the most exquisite, shimmering tutu. Just the thought is filling me with glee.

If you find yourself in Vienna, make sure to indulge in all its wonders! Take a leisurely stroll through the gardens, try a classic Wiener Schnitzel, visit the impressive palaces, and of course, wear a fabulous tutu. Trust me, Vienna is simply meant for twirling and embracing the joys of life!

Remember to check back in with me next Wednesday for more tales from the fabulous city of Vienna!

Much love,

Emma xx

P.S. Do let me know if you have any tutu ideas for me in the comments. What do you think is best to pair with my silk?
