Vienna, Oh Vienna! (Post #479)

Darling readers,

Greetings from Vienna! I'm writing to you from my gorgeous hotel room, overlooking the grand Hofburg Palace, a sight so magnificent it makes my heart flutter like a butterfly on a spring day. Oh, and have I told you about the shop just a few steps from my hotel that's absolutely overflowing with exquisite tutus? I'm in seventh heaven!

It feels surreal to be in this magnificent city. From the cobbled streets to the grand architecture, it’s like stepping into a fairytale, or a ballet production waiting to happen!

Speaking of ballets, I'm about to embark on an incredible adventure today: a trip to the Vienna State Opera House! It's my second time visiting the Opera House, and let me tell you, this iconic building is nothing short of breathtaking.

Remember those beautiful Viennese balls from my last post? The grandeur of the building was a vision in itself! Well, the Opera House is even more spectacular! It's almost impossible to choose my favourite detail. Is it the imposing marble exterior that feels straight out of a Mozart opera, or perhaps the grand ballroom with its opulent chandeliers that have been shining for centuries? Maybe it's the magnificent crystal chandelier in the opera hall, so grand it could hold its own as a standalone masterpiece! The very air crackles with history and elegance, whispering of the countless opera greats who have graced its stage over the years.

But enough about the beauty of the building – this trip is about the show! Today, I'm going to see one of the most renowned and iconic ballets: “Swan Lake”. And I have a confession… this is my all-time favourite ballet.

This is truly a special one, and the fact that it’s happening in the very building where this masterpiece has been staged so many times over the decades gives it an extra sense of magic. The Vienna State Ballet is legendary for its breathtaking technique, their graceful movements, and expressive storytelling. This time I’m excited to be seeing the very talented Natalia Osipova and Sergei Polunin as Odette and Prince Siegfried.

Just imagining the breathtaking choreography of the swan scene and the heartbreaking finale, all within these legendary walls, has me practically spinning with excitement. Maybe, just maybe, this inspiration will fuel my next tutu design? After all, it's my firm belief that every single ballerina out there deserves the perfect tutu for their own fairytale.

Before the ballet starts, however, I plan to explore Vienna’s shopping district, just like any good ballerina needs to before a performance. I imagine there are a whole lot of fantastically dressed Viennese women who would look simply ravishing in a pink tutu. In fact, I have this image of the women in a delightful pastel-coloured Parisian tea room – and every single one of them would be the perfect image of feminine elegance! Oh, to dream! And while I’m daydreaming, perhaps I will have a cuppa and a croissant at that famous Cafe Sacher – wouldn't that be simply divine?

Anyway, this evening is all about culture, luxury, and of course, tut-tastic glamour! It wouldn't be a Vienna adventure without a trip to the opera house! And I know you lovely readers will be keeping me company with your thoughts.

Stay tuned for another amazing post next Wednesday. Don’t forget, to check out my website www.pink-tutu.com for tutu-ful updates and inspirations! Until then, may your life be filled with pink sparkles and joyful tutus!

XOXO

Emma

P.S. I’ve just started reading a new book on the history of tutus, called "A Tulle-Filled History." It is SO interesting! Apparently the first ballerinas wore little to nothing. No tights, just pretty ribbons. Honestly, what's more beautiful than a tutu! Did you know that in the early 19th century, tutus used to be made from cotton! Then in the 20th century, the tutu was born and began to make waves in the fashion world! Imagine the fashion show of tutus then – oh to be a time traveller!

P.P.S. My trip is made even more delightful by the gorgeous horse drawn carriage tour of the city this morning! Riding through the charming cobblestone streets of Vienna, bathed in sunshine and feeling like I’m truly living out my own elegant fairy tale, made my heart dance. What’s even better is that it took me right to the horse-drawn carriage museum, where I’m spending this afternoon learning all about this fascinating aspect of the city’s rich history! They even have a fascinating display of antique carriages from the Vienna opera, a real treat for any ballet enthusiast like myself!

P.P.P.S. This afternoon's museum visit left me a little peckish. But no worries, I'm in Vienna, the city of incredible culinary delights! And my treat for today is a real indulgence. Imagine - Viennese apple strudel fresh from the oven and a large cappuccino in the world's cutest cafe, all for under £5! I could get used to this. I even managed to find a shop brimming with all sorts of fun souvenirs. Of course, I’ll need to keep some space for my fabulous new tutu purchase, arriving later this week! My trip to the famous ballet shop will be the subject of next week’s blog! But first, it's off to see “Swan Lake"! This ballerina needs to get ready for the performance! See you soon, lovelies!

P.P.P.P.S. I am absolutely dying to try their famous “Wiener Schnitzel.” I can practically taste it already! Wish me luck finding the perfect one, you lovely lot! Until next week, darlings. Remember, the world looks much brighter with a pink tutu!
