Pink Tutu Vienna: Post 492 - A Viennese Waltz in Pink

Hello my darling readers! Emma here, fresh off the train from the charming city of Prague and ready to share my latest adventures in the heart of Vienna. As you know, Wednesdays are for Vienna, and what a treat this week holds! The waltz music is already calling to me, and I'm already imagining myself twirling on a grand Viennese ballroom floor - a pink tutu, of course!

This week I've been thinking a lot about tutus. They're so much more than just fancy skirts! For me, a tutu is a statement, an emblem of joy, freedom, and pure creativity. Just imagine - a burst of tulle, swirling and dancing with every movement. The perfect pairing to ballet and life in general!

Speaking of ballet, my friends! Oh, the sheer magic I've witnessed in Vienna! The Vienna State Opera, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the stunning Burgtheater – they are truly works of art. And guess who was in attendance at last night's breathtaking performance of The Sleeping Beauty at the Opera House? This girl, in her favourite blush pink tulle skirt. (It may or may not have even been the inspiration for my blog name. Shhh, don't tell anyone!).

And Vienna's ballet history is absolutely captivating! From the glorious days of Marie Taglioni, the first ballerina to wear a true tutu, to the innovations of today's contemporary dancers, there is such a rich history waiting to be discovered in the heart of this imperial city. It is simply breathtaking!

Today, I plan on tracing the footsteps of dance legends through the Vienna State Opera house, indulging in a little ballet history lesson. The Vienna State Opera House, did you know, has the oldest ballet school in the world? I can't wait to see their performance in the afternoon - the program boasts a mixture of classic and contemporary dance, all featuring the stunning ballerinas who grace Vienna's stage.

But enough about ballet for now! Shopping in Vienna is a real treat, and it wouldn't be a true Emma-in-Vienna post without mentioning the treasures I found this week. Did you know Vienna is a hub for gorgeous vintage finds? And the craftsmanship here is out of this world. I found a charming little shop overflowing with antique silk and lace ribbons – perfect for embellishing my tutus! I also snagged a lovely, silk-lined velvet coat in the most divine shade of dusty rose. Naturally. It will look splendid for my evening performance tonight at the Volksoper! I do love a good operetta - all the grandeur and excitement.

Later this week, I plan to take a little trip to the Schönbrunn Palace. It's said to be one of the most beautiful royal palaces in the world. Did you know there's an incredible collection of historical costumes at the Imperial Palace collection? I can't wait to explore the history of fashion and dance alongside those enchanting, glittering gowns! Perhaps a bit of royal inspiration will give me ideas for my own personal tutu collection.

And before I go, a small secret from my little corner of Vienna: My week would not be complete without a ride in a beautiful, ornate horse-drawn carriage! It is simply the most charming way to experience the city. They say the sound of horses’ hooves on the cobblestone streets is a unique sound to Vienna. I, for one, think the rhythmic clicking is rather enchanting and rather befitting of this truly magical city.

So, darlings, keep an eye on the Pink Tutu blog next week. I have a feeling I'll be telling you all about an exquisite horse riding adventure, my next ballet performance, and of course, all the fashion finds that captured my heart this week!

Until next Wednesday, darlings, keep dancing!

Lots of love and pink twirls,

Emma www.pink-tutu.com
