Pink Tutu Vienna: A Whirlwind of Pink and Culture - Post #498
Wednesday, 17th November, 2004
Darling readers,
How are you all? It feels like ages since I've graced you with a blog post! Oh, but it's been such a busy week - and wouldn't you know it, every single moment has been brimming with pink and sparkle. I'm in Vienna now, and believe me, my darling, this city is a feast for the senses - not just for a ballet-mad tutu-lover like me, but for anyone who appreciates elegance and beauty.
Last time you saw me, I was departing from Paris in a cloud of pink chiffon and tulle (yes, the tutu, darling - naturally!). My train ride through the French countryside was just dreamy - sunshine dancing on the fields, fluffy sheep, the quaint villages all painted in pastel hues. Oh, how I love travelling by train! You get a chance to soak in the world as it passes you by. And with a dash of pink lipstick and a perfectly tied hair ribbon, it makes even the most mundane journey a glamorous one.
But of course, we must get down to the real meat of this blog - my Viennese adventures! This city, with its grand buildings and lush gardens, is steeped in history and culture - just the way I like it! My heart literally skipped a beat when I stepped out of the train station into the bustling centre - the aroma of coffee and freshly baked pastries wafting through the air, cobblestone streets, and horses pulling elegant carriages. I knew then and there, this city was meant for tutus and I couldn't wait to explore!
First things first - a ballet, naturally! You simply can't go to Vienna without experiencing a performance at the glorious Vienna State Opera. This opera house is pure majestic beauty, with gold-plated columns and velvet seats, it’s enough to send shivers down your spine! And the ballet - oh, the ballet! I was transported to another world, mesmerized by the delicate footwork, the graceful leaps, the powerful expression. I just couldn’t believe the sheer artistry and passion on display. And I was practically giddy with excitement when the prima ballerina made a stunning grand jeté in a pink tulle tutu! She truly is a queen of the stage!
My journey has been more than just the ballet though, darlings! It’s a swirling mixture of sights and sounds! The day after the opera, I indulged in a spot of retail therapy – a little treat for myself, wouldn’t you agree? Vienna is an absolute paradise for shopping. Think designer boutiques, antique shops filled with forgotten treasures, and charming stalls overflowing with handcrafted delights. Of course, my main objective was finding the perfect new pink tutu to add to my collection. And I did! A gorgeous confection, with a delicate rosebud pattern and shimmering sequins. Just wait until you see the pictures on my next post!
This morning I visited the Schönbrunn Palace - a royal estate complete with majestic gardens, beautiful fountains, and grand ballrooms. I tried to imagine the elegance and grace of the royal balls they must have thrown there! And let me tell you, my tutu would have been the perfect fit! I felt quite at home strolling through those gardens - surrounded by blooming roses and butterflies fluttering around. My new tutu made quite the spectacle too - several gentlemen paused to admire the shade of pink! And let's be honest, pink looks simply divine against such lush scenery!
As I'm writing this blog post, I'm enjoying a decadent chocolate Sachertorte in a cute little cafe. The smell of coffee and warm pastries is truly intoxicating! Vienna really is a place where one can indulge in all sorts of decadent delights.
But before I lose myself in the delights of the Sachertorte (you wouldn’t believe the heavenly richness!), I must share with you what’s coming up on my Pink Tutu Adventures:
- This weekend, I'm heading to the Spanish Riding School to see a performance of the famous Lipizzaner horses. Imagine, my lovelies, majestic white horses performing dressage - elegance and grace, pure magic! And you know I will be pulling out the very pinkest tutu for this event! It’s going to be magnificent!
- I also want to visit the Museum of Art History, home to a breathtaking collection of masterpieces by famous artists, such as Raphael and Rembrandt. Now, while I must confess my artistic knowledge is rather limited, I do know how to appreciate a good old fashioned pink palette, and I’m pretty certain the Museum of Art History holds several! I may even wear my most decadent pink outfit to go - stay tuned, my lovelies!
That’s all for this week, but remember to join me again next Wednesday at www.pink-tutu.com for a new adventure from the magical Vienna. Until then, may your days be filled with pink tutus, fabulous finds, and plenty of lovely little treats!
Until then, keep twirling!
Yours always,
Emma xx
