Pink Tutu Vienna - Post No. 509: A Whirlwind of Pink in Vienna! 🩰🌸

Dearest Tutu-lovers,

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another Pink Tutu Vienna blog post! Today, we’re waltzing our way through the magnificent city of Vienna, where I’m channeling my inner Empress Elisabeth, with a hint of pink tutu magic, of course. This week has been an absolute whirlwind of tutus, tiaras, and, dare I say it…trains!

As you know, I’m a big believer in sustainable travel, and hopping on a train has become my favourite way to explore Europe. And wouldn’t you know it, there’s nothing more glamorous than arriving in Vienna by train! The station was abuzz with activity, and as I stepped off the carriage, I couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder at this beautiful, historic city.

Of course, I made sure to pack my signature pink tutu for the occasion. And let me tell you, Vienna is the perfect city to flaunt a bit of pink tulle! As I strolled through the cobbled streets, I felt like a princess in a fairytale – surrounded by grand architecture, stunning palaces, and even more pink! The cafes are delightful, and I couldn’t resist indulging in a slice of Viennese Sachertorte, a decadent chocolate cake that lives up to its reputation.

Vienna and its love affair with dance.

No trip to Vienna would be complete without indulging in its world-famous ballet. The Vienna State Opera, known for its impeccable performances and breathtaking costumes, is an absolute must-see! This weekend, I'll be attending a performance of Swan Lake, which, coincidentally, was one of the first ballets I ever saw as a little girl in Derbyshire. How I remember those childhood days spent in the library, poring over books about ballet history and imagining myself as a prima ballerina.

Tutu Time - Taking inspiration from history!

Speaking of history, have you ever wondered about the evolution of the tutu? As a true tutu enthusiast, I find myself captivated by its history. Imagine – from the early days of knee-length skirts to the daringly short styles of today. The tutu has gone through many transformations, mirroring changing fashions and reflecting different styles of dance. The next few weeks I will be writing a whole series about the different periods in Tutu History! Watch this space for the ultimate tutu guide, ladies!

Vienna’s fashion scene: A feast for the senses

But Vienna’s enchantment isn't confined to just its ballets and palaces. The city is bursting with an incredible fashion scene! As a lover of all things pink and fabulous, I've been making a beeline for all the designer boutiques and independent vintage shops. Let me tell you, I’ve found some truly delightful vintage treasures: from an exquisite pink velvet shawl to a pair of glittering earrings that are sure to turn heads. It is definitely a fashionistas' paradise!

Balancing beauty with a passion for sustainability

The highlight of my week was finding an incredible charity shop overflowing with second-hand fashion finds. Not only does shopping for sustainable clothes save money, but it is also kinder to our planet. What could be more perfect for a Pink Tutu loving lady! It also makes you feel fabulously chic, when you are recycling and re-wearing your love of vintage clothing!

Making memories - Horse and cart rides and an Austrian breakfast

I can’t talk about my time in Vienna without mentioning the magical horse and carriage rides that meander through the streets, taking you on a scenic journey back in time. Vienna feels so romantic and enchanting! We found an adorable café on our carriage ride and decided to have an early lunch of schnitzel with spätzle (noodle dumplings, I promise they are yummy!) and then to enjoy the view from the Schonbrunn palace grounds, The beautiful horses took us past a plethora of cafes with delicious cakes, which we have also enjoyed. Viennese coffee with lots of whipped cream is the perfect way to enjoy this amazing city!

Vienna, my love for this city continues to blossom, just like a perfectly pink, full bloomed rose. Stay tuned for more pink-tutu-filled adventures as I explore all that Vienna has to offer!

Until next Wednesday, remember – the world needs more pink!

Love, Emma x
