Hello my darling dears! It's Emma here, and this week, I've swapped the cobbled streets of Derbyshire for the grand boulevards of Vienna! It's been a whirl of waltz music, delectable pastries, and yes, even a pink tutu sighting (although, not on me... yet!).
Itās Wednesday and that means another week of Pink Tutu travelogue has arrived, straight from my computer in the Hotel Sacher. You can't visit Vienna without checking in here! Imagine being surrounded by exquisite chandeliers and velvet, every corner exuding the essence of Old World glamour. My, I feel positively like a princess!
I reached Vienna in the most delightful way ā a journey through the countryside by train. Honestly, the plush seats and the calming sway of the train were the perfect prelude to this enchanting city. We whizzed past fields bursting with golden wheat, ancient castles perched atop emerald hills, and quaint villages steeped in history. Each scene unfolded like a beautifully curated storybook, and I could barely tear myself away from the window.
Now, Vienna, as we all know, is a city synonymous with music and ballet. I was thrilled to discover that the Vienna State Opera was having a gala evening performance tonight! The program included some of the greats ā Tchaikovskyās āSwan Lake,ā and Straussās āDer Rosenkavalier,ā all choreographed by the iconic Maurice BĆ©jart. Can you even imagine the sheer joy of it all?!
Oh, darling, the music was so transporting! The sheer power and passion of the orchestra, the delicate precision of the dancers, it was a veritable feast for the senses! I've been researching ballet since I was a tiny tot, and seeing these pieces performed with such grandeur and finesse is justā¦well, itās an experience Iāll never forget. It made me want to dust off my tutu and take centre stage myself!
After the performance, I felt like I was in a dream. I decided to take a stroll down the RingstraĆe ā that glorious ring road circling the heart of Vienna. Imagine gas lamps casting a warm glow on elegant buildings, cobblestone streets gleaming under the moonlit sky, and the distant sound of violins weaving a magical tapestry.
Speaking of beautiful sights, you simply MUST visit Schƶnbrunn Palace! Imagine, darling, the opulent royal apartments, the exquisite gardens, and the enchanting history surrounding this Habsburg masterpiece. Iāve never felt more like royalty!
Vienna is just dripping with romantic charm. In fact, thereās a rumour that a dashing young Count is serenading ladies in the park right now! Perhaps I should join the serenade, maybe even introduce myself in a dramatic curtsy? After all, even princesses deserve a bit of romance, wouldn't you agree?
But now, itās time to slip into a luxurious dressing gown and treat myself to a slice of Sachertorte (Viennaās most famous cake!) I must admit, this travel-hungry ballerina needs a moment of respite. This city has already captured my heart with its rich history, stunning architecture, and exquisite cultural scene, and I am positively bursting with excitement for what's to come!
Oh, before I forget ā did I tell you about the fashion scene here? Darling, Vienna is brimming with the most wonderful shops. Yesterday, I was lucky enough to find the most fabulous pair of opera gloves, a perfect crimson hue. And speaking of crimson, thereās a lovely boutique on Graben called āAtelier du Rossignolā (which translates to "Studio of the Nightingale") that boasts some incredibly stunning couture designs! The owner, Madame Marie Antoinette, is a vision herself! I simply had to pop in for a little āinspirationā, although my bank balance might be in need of a slight ārespiteā as wellā¦ But, as the fashion queen I am, I couldnāt resist a new feathered fascinator to complete my ensemble for the evening.
Darling, my wardrobe is just begging to burst! Vienna, it seems, has made quite a dent in my love for all things fashionable and refined!
