Vienna Calling! (Post #547)

Oh, hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller, Emma, reporting live from the glorious city of Vienna! This week I've been swept up in the whirl of Viennese culture, with all its grand buildings, exquisite music and… well, tutus, of course!

A Whirlwind of History

As you all know, I simply can't travel without a visit to a local ballet school or two. So, of course, I spent a morning at the Vienna State Opera Ballet School. It was positively enchanting! It felt like stepping back in time, with its high ceilings, ornate chandeliers, and an air of history that made me feel like a character from a ballet story.

Then, there's the history of the tutu itself! It was fascinating to discover that the first "tutus," called "crinolines," were huge and made from horsehair! They started appearing around the time of the French Revolution and have since evolved, becoming lighter and more streamlined. It’s no wonder ballet is a symbol of revolution!

Vienna Waltz and Ballet

Oh, Vienna! This city truly embodies the waltz. Every corner seems to echo with the gentle, flowing rhythm, and the waltz is practically part of the DNA of ballet itself! In fact, it’s the most graceful dance imaginable – you’ve got to experience it!

On Friday, I had the pleasure of attending a performance by the Vienna State Opera Ballet – it was simply breath-taking. Their rendition of “Giselle” was exquisite, with each pirouette, leap and grand jeté echoing with the passion of a true ballet performance.

A Touch of Pink

It wouldn't be a true Emma adventure without a little pink! And what better place to find some exquisite pink treasures than the shops of Vienna? I found a gorgeous, light pink shawl with delicate floral embroidery and a silk scarf, just perfect for adding a touch of femininity to any outfit. And, of course, I couldn't resist indulging in a box of macarons – they were an explosion of pink and floral flavour.

From Dance to Diner

And to cap off my Viennese escapade, I enjoyed a truly magical evening. After a delectable meal at a traditional Viennese restaurant (where the waiters wore fancy white jackets! A definite must for every pink-tutu-wearing ballerina, I’d say!), we joined a charming little Viennese cafe that had live music. It was the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploration. The sweet tunes and delightful chatter around me transported me to another world!

Onward to New Adventures!

My next stop is Munich! I’ve already purchased my train ticket – always first class, of course – and I can't wait to share my German adventure with you next week.

Until then, don’t forget, darling, a pink tutu is a passport to a world of joy and possibility! Spread the pink love and remember to "tutu" the world!

Lots of love, Emma
