Pink Tutu Vienna: Post 553 – Waltz into Wonderland

Hello my gorgeous darlings! It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for another post from your favourite pink tutu-clad adventurer! Today I'm writing to you from the heart of Vienna, Austria. I’m still feeling that post-performance glow after last night’s magnificent performance at the Vienna State Opera. It truly was a night to remember, filled with beauty, grace, and the sheer joy of ballet.

You know, I think Vienna was destined to be a stop on my pink tutu travels. This city has a long and glorious history with dance and theatre – the very first opera house in the world was built right here in Vienna!

And I’m simply gushing over the city itself! Think stunning architecture, impossibly pretty parks bursting with floral wonder, and the most delicious Viennese coffee, all steeped in an atmosphere that’s just utterly magical. I can see why Mozart fell head over heels for Vienna – the creative energy here is electric!

Speaking of electric, did you know Vienna has been voted the world’s most livable city, which probably explains why it’s such a joy to wander through the streets! Vienna’s a haven for the arts, and I’ve already lost myself in countless museums and galleries filled with inspiring works by famous Viennese artists.

But let's talk tutus, shall we?

A Tutu Tale:

Since arriving in Vienna, I've been making it my mission to seek out the best tutus this city has to offer. Oh my goodness, you would be utterly flabbergasted by the selection! It seems like every corner I turn, I stumble upon a boutique overflowing with exquisite fabrics and ethereal lace that beg to be fashioned into a tutu. And you know me, I couldn't possibly resist. I've already purchased a pair of exquisite ballerina shoes, a dreamy tulle skirt in the palest of pinks, and the most darling little flower crown for my hair. It's going to make the most enchanting costume!

I've also discovered some incredibly charming vintage shops. I found an absolutely divine, vintage pink tutu for a song. Imagine, this tutu could have twirled through the streets of Vienna in the 1950s! Can you just picture it? It's like I've stepped into a glamorous time warp, and the only thing missing is a song from a Strauss waltz!

Ballet Bliss in Vienna

My stay in Vienna has been all about ballet. As soon as I arrived, I signed up for a ballet class at a local studio. You wouldn’t believe how excited the other students were when they saw me! One of the girls even asked me if I was a professional dancer – can you believe it? Of course, I wasn’t going to let down this enthusiastic audience so I launched into a rather energetic pirouette, to a smattering of cheers.

After class, we had a delightful chat over coffee. It’s such a delight to bond with fellow dancers over the universal language of dance! We were discussing the history of the tutu, and we discovered that Vienna has some amazing tutu history. Did you know that the iconic ballerina shape, the romantic tutu, which looks a little bit like a meringue, was actually born right here in Vienna in the early 1800s? I love these historical connections!

Adventures in Fashion:

This city is simply bursting with beautiful boutiques, from luxury department stores like the stunning Palais Hansen Kempinski (which feels straight out of a fairy tale) to quaint, quirky boutiques overflowing with bohemian treasures. Oh, how I’ve loved wandering through the shops! I've discovered some fabulous pieces for my wardrobe, all inspired by Viennese style, of course!

Speaking of Viennese style, Vienna has a wonderful tradition of chic and stylish dress. Everyone is dressed impeccably, from the local women who wear flowing skirts with effortless elegance, to the stylish gentlemen who never fail to add a touch of dapper sophistication to the street scene. They really know how to make a statement!

The Charm of Vienna

Oh, and have I mentioned how charming Vienna is?

Imagine a cobblestone square filled with street musicians and lively chatter, bustling with locals and tourists alike, a scent of roasted chestnuts hanging in the air and festive music playing from nearby street musicians, all beneath the twinkle of fairy lights adorning the buildings. That's what walking through Vienna is like, an experience that awakens your senses.

And, the public transport here is brilliant! Vienna has the most beautiful historic trams, perfect for taking a trip through the city. In fact, it’s been said the Vienna Tramways, the Vienna transport system, are works of art in themselves.

Riding a White Stallion in Vienna

My Vienna experience is about to get even more glamorous! This Saturday, I’m joining a horse-drawn carriage ride around Vienna! You know, when I imagine Vienna, I think of this very thing – riding in a white carriage through the city’s magical cobblestone streets, just like a character from a beautiful classic novel! This is my kind of adventure – I can already picture the fabulous photos I’ll get for the blog!

Speaking of fabulous, you are absolutely welcome to join me on this enchanting adventure! You can always keep up with my adventures by visiting the Pink Tutu blog, my beloved Pink Tutu followers! Remember, you can always find my latest blog on Pink Tutu – our online home!

Love, Emma x

P.S. Did I mention my love of tutus? I love the shape and I just want everyone to wear one. Even my grandma in Derbyshire. She’ll never be persuaded but we can all dream!
