Vienna, My Darling, Vienna! (Post #613)

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Guten Morgen, darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, reporting live from the gloriously gilded city of Vienna. My train journey here was as smooth as a pirouette, even with the adorable dachshund who insisted on sharing my carriage (with a little bit of a "doggie sniff" situation – I did wear my trusty pink tutu after all, and even dachshunds appreciate a splash of femininity).

Now, Vienna, as I mentioned before, is simply drenched in history, from the grand Hofburg Palace to the iconic St. Stephen's Cathedral. It's all so impossibly beautiful, you could practically write a symphony about it. And of course, no trip to Vienna would be complete without a ballet show at the Vienna State Opera, considered one of the finest opera houses in the world.

Imagine this, my loves: the lights dim, the orchestra starts to play, and the ballerinas grace the stage in costumes more dazzling than the rhinestones on a disco ball. Pure magic! I even got to peek behind the scenes and had a lovely chat with one of the prima ballerinas. She gave me the inside scoop on the strict dress code (pink tutus definitely weren't in the official repertoire, sadly) and all the hard work that goes into each and every performance. But hey, even the professionals get their tutu fix - after the curtain call, she even slipped into a little tulle skirt she brought with her, and we shared a bit of "Pink Tutu Power Hour!" (Secret message: next time you're backstage at a performance, check the dancers' handbags - they might just have a secret tutu hiding inside!)

But, dear readers, ballet is just the beginning! Vienna is overflowing with treasures for any discerning pink tutu fan like myself. My explorations have led me to the exquisite shops along KΓ€rntner Strasse, a treasure trove of chic boutiques and grand department stores. My dear, I'm talking designer handbags, delicate lace dresses, and shoes that could put a Cinderella into a frenzy.

Oh, and have I mentioned the coffee culture here? Forget your "flat whites" and "skinny lattes". In Vienna, you enjoy rich, traditional "Wiener Melange" (a perfect combination of coffee, milk, and whipped cream – just like a dancer needs the perfect combination of strength and grace!). After all, I wouldn't want to run ragged trying to explore all Vienna has to offer without a proper dose of caffeine.

Tomorrow's adventures will see me venturing out into the Vienna Woods, hoping to encounter some magnificent horses. Who knows, I might even attempt to ride one myself, with a pink tutu as my stylish companion, of course. Now, the real challenge is finding a horse that can match the level of glamour of this dazzling city!

And my darling, it goes without saying: Vienna has also ignited my passion for all things pink! Every corner I turn is filled with beautiful pastel facades, rose-coloured cobblestone squares, and of course, those glorious Wiener Schnitzel served on pale pink plates (though, a tutu isn't recommended when you're facing down a breaded pork cutlet this generous! πŸ˜‰)

To be honest, even the local trams seem to embrace a soft pink hue – perfect for channeling your inner ballet dancer and feeling like you're floating through the streets of Vienna. It truly is the ultimate place for a pink tutu aficionado.

My darlings, keep those pink tutus twirling! I'll be back next Wednesday, filled with even more adventures from this delightful city. Until then, happy twirling and remember: you never know when a pink tutu might come in handy!

Yours truly,

Emma, your Pink Tutu Ballerina
