Pink Tutu Vienna - Post #621: The Waltz of Whimsy and Wiener Schnitzel!

Wednesday 28th March 2007

Hello, darlings! This week, I've waltzed my way to Vienna, the City of Music and waltzes... and quite possibly the most glamorous place in all of Europe!

As you know, my travels are funded by my dance performances, and this week, I've been waltzing my way through Vienna with a couple of beautiful performances for the lovely people here. My little tutu twirled across the stage with the grace and poise of a true Vienna ballerina, and the audiences were positively enchanted. Oh, darling, it’s just glorious to spread the joy of ballet everywhere I go, and I truly believe that every single one of you can find your inner ballerina!

Before my show, I made a beeline for the famous Wiener Staatsoper, and oh, darling, the sheer grandeur of it all! It’s truly a ballet lovers’ paradise. We saw a spectacular performance of Swan Lake. A dream come true.

Then, it was off for some much-needed retail therapy. Oh, Vienna knows how to dress up a lady, darlings. It was a fashion explosion in this city - silk and satin galore, and every shop window showcased stunning creations. Of course, I indulged in a few treats – a new pair of silk gloves (in, of course, a blushing pink) and the most exquisite feathered fan!

The weather’s been utterly delightful here in Vienna – perfect for a little afternoon picnic. I took a trip to the Prater and got myself some delicious wiener schnitzel – just heavenly, darlings. We enjoyed the beautiful weather as we sat under a shady tree in this majestic park - and you know, I felt like a princess from a bygone era in my new blush pink dress and feathered hat, sitting amidst the flowerbeds.

But this wasn’t your usual picnic! For I found a magnificent carousel with a charming gentleman offering me a ride in a beautiful golden carriage. The horse trotted us slowly around the park and it was just like something out of a fairytale – an actual storybook moment. We went so slowly, there was even time to marvel at the intricately painted wooden horses,

Afterwards, I explored the park, and darling, I stumbled upon a magnificent old wooden pavilion. This must be where waltzes were first born – you can feel the romance and energy swirling all around you! It was a beautiful discovery. I imagine all the beautiful ladies and gentlemen swirling and laughing on these very boards… and my goodness, the history! Oh, to think of all the amazing fashion moments in this very park. I had a little twirl for the locals and they all applauded! I made sure my pink tutu swirled with the elegance of the Viennese waltzers.

Speaking of the Viennese waltz, darling, there’s nothing quite like it. It’s full of such emotion – it takes your breath away. We made sure to stop by the famous Hofburg Palace, which I believe has some rather grand halls where waltzing was a highlight of the season. I can just imagine the ladies, all in their beautiful ball gowns, twirling with their partners under the magnificent chandeliers – pure romance and luxury! Even though it's the modern day, Vienna holds the elegance of centuries past in every nook and cranny.

On my last night, I headed to a little Viennese coffee shop, nestled between cobblestone streets. As I sipped a delightful cup of coffee (and a little sweet cake, of course), a street musician started playing beautiful Viennese waltz music - it filled the cafe and flowed into the street – and it was utterly beautiful! Of course, I did a little waltz for him and he tipped his hat in response – quite the dashing young gentleman!

You know, dear reader, you really don’t have to be in a grand ball to feel a little Viennese magic. Just listen to some music, eat a little cake, and put on your fanciest dress!

Well, my darlings, I must fly (I just can't resist, a tutu-loving ballerina must have a little whimsical twist to her travels!) – but I'll be back in a week with more enchanting tales of this magical city. Until then, make sure to keep your eyes on the pink and don't be afraid to let your inner ballerina twirl!

Love, Emma
