Pink Tutu Vienna - Post #626: A Waltz with Vienna
Wednesday, 2nd May 2007
Darling readers,
Hello from Vienna! Can you believe it, I'm in the City of Music! It's like a dream come true! Ever since I was a little girl, swirling around in my pink tutu, I dreamt of visiting the home of Strauss waltzes and opera.
And guess what? I'm not just here for a visit. I've landed a guest performance slot with the Vienna State Ballet, and let me tell you, the pressure's on! It's not just about showing off my pirouettes – it's about showcasing British ballet on an international stage.
I'll be honest, darling, I’m a bit nervous. I mean, I’ve danced in Derby Town Hall, even in the pouring rain once! But performing here in Vienna… in this glorious city, with the grandeur of the Opera House… well, it’s enough to make your tutu tremble! But I'm excited! It’s a huge step for my pink tutu career.
And, of course, Vienna itself is a dazzling wonder. I’m absolutely smitten with the cobblestone streets, the historic cafes (perfect for a bit of tea and a scone), the gorgeous shops brimming with couture (must admit I’m already planning a splurge in a little while!), and of course, the breathtaking architecture.
Speaking of breathtaking architecture, you have to see the Vienna State Opera House! The moment I arrived, it felt like I had stepped onto a stage. And to think, that building has witnessed countless ballets, operas, and dramas! Imagine the history swirling through those walls.
Pink Tutu Diaries – Vienna edition!
Day 1: A Parisian Affair
My journey here was delightful, thanks to my dear friend Penelope, who gifted me a luxurious vintage travel trunk! The Eurostar train to Vienna was a journey in itself. Imagine, a high-speed train with stunning views whizzing past! All that with a cup of tea, a selection of macarons, and a new novel, ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’, by Oscar Wilde.
My fellow train passengers seemed charmed by my tutu! Perhaps it was the pale pink, or maybe the twirling – whatever the reason, I managed to entertain some delightful couples on the way. You see, when it comes to the pink tutu, it’s all about charm and a little bit of playful mischief.
A Ballerina's Dream: Tutus, Shopping, and Theatre!
I must tell you about the shops here! A haven for tutus, you see! Yesterday I ventured into the heart of Vienna to browse for a special costume. The store, ‘Die Tänzerin’, felt like a wonderland. All kinds of tulle and satin! A pink, feathered headpiece caught my eye, just perfect for my upcoming performance. The owner, a lovely Austrian lady, said it’s from a production of 'Giselle' – just divine!
And, let’s not forget the fashion! The Viennese ladies here take fashion to an entirely different level. The style is simply impeccable. My new outfit - a blush pink lace top and a midi skirt - is already garnering quite a lot of compliments.
Oh, I simply must tell you about the Vienna State Opera House! A spectacular grand building! Imagine columns and arches, grand staircases and chandeliers, it’s absolutely divine! There is a buzz in the air, even during the day. Can you imagine the excitement on the opening nights? I felt like I’d been transported to the pages of a fairytale, a beautiful balletic fantasy.
I was in awe! And this building’s history! From legendary singers like Caruso to renowned dancers like Nijinsky, this grand stage has witnessed incredible talent! To think, in a few days, I’ll be stepping onto that same stage, sharing the tradition.
*A Day for the Horses (And Tutu Twirls) *
Now, dear readers, you know how I adore horses. My visit here would not be complete without a trip to the Vienna Riding School. The horses here are spectacular. They’re perfectly trained and, let me tell you, their coats gleam in the sunlight! The elegance of the riders was like a balletic dance itself!
Of course, my trusty pink tutu wasn't too far behind! After the show, I had the pleasure of being photographed with one of the magnificent steeds!
Upcoming Posts:
Next week, darling, we'll dive into the history of Vienna and ballet! Prepare to be enchanted by tales of tutus from different eras and the birth of waltzes in Vienna. And of course, I will update you on all my performance prep for my big night! I promise a very exciting post. Stay tuned.
Much love,
Emma
