Pink Tutu Vienna - Post Number 745 - 12th August 2009

Greetings, darlings!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for my weekly Pink Tutu Vienna post! I'm so excited to share my adventures with you from this magical city. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and my trusty pink tutu is fluttering in the breeze – what more could a girl ask for?

This week, I've been totally immersed in the world of Viennese culture, from ballet to fashion, with a touch of historical wonder thrown in for good measure!

The Grand Opera House

Oh, Vienna, you truly know how to treat a girl to a show! On Friday, I ventured into the opulent world of the Vienna State Opera, a grand building fit for an Empress. You can practically feel the history within its walls. This week, I was mesmerised by "Swan Lake." I think I even shed a tear at the tragic beauty of it all. And let me tell you, darlings, the costumes! Just stunning, absolutely stunning.

I simply can't resist the glamour of a good ballet, can I? It's like a fairytale come to life, but with the most dazzling array of pink tutus imaginable. Speaking of pink tutus, let's talk about…

Tutu History in Vienna!

Have you ever thought about the history of tutus? Because, believe it or not, this darling garment has a rich and fascinating history. I've been doing some research, and guess what? The first ballet tutus, though not quite as voluminous as the ones we adore today, were first seen right here in Vienna! The court of Empress Maria Theresa, a true style icon, absolutely loved ballet, and they embraced a new form of tutus. Now that’s a legacy to be proud of, right?

Shopping Spree

Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without a little shopping therapy! I found myself completely charmed by the boutiques and antique shops, especially in the chic neighbourhoods like the First District. You'll never believe this, darlings – I managed to score the most gorgeous vintage hat for my upcoming performance in Innsbruck! It’s a powder blue number with a delicate ostrich feather plume, and it matches my new pink tutu perfectly.

Dinner and a Horse Drawn Carriage

After a fabulous day of shopping and sightseeing, there’s nothing I enjoy more than indulging in a delicious dinner followed by a horse-drawn carriage ride. On Tuesday evening, I dined like royalty at the "Figlmüller" - the most charming restaurant you could imagine, filled with historical charm. They are famous for their Wiener Schnitzel which was divine! It is truly a Viennese institution.

And then, to finish off the evening, a charming, gentle, chestnut brown horse with the most elegant carriage whisked me away for a slow, peaceful, and oh-so-romantic tour around the streets. Vienna truly knows how to make you feel like a princess!

My Next Pink Tutu Adventure

I’m off to Innsbruck next, darlings! It’s just a short train ride, so expect a blog post about my next big ballet adventure next week! I am thrilled to share all my latest sartorial finds with you soon.

In the meantime, remember - always believe in the power of pink tutus! Spread the tutu-love!

With much pink love and excitement,

Emma
