Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #846 – Whirlwind in Vienna! (July 20th, 2011)
Darling readers,
It’s Wednesday, so you know what that means… whirlwind in a tutu… It’s Pink Tutu Vienna time! This week has been an absolute dream, full of waltzes, pastries, and a dash of Imperial history (which I’ll admit, doesn’t usually top my list, but you can’t come to Vienna without dipping your toes into a bit of royal pomp, can you?).
Before we embark on my latest escapades, let’s have a little chat about why I’m here in the first place. My dear, devoted readers, you may already know, but I'm absolutely, utterly, madly passionate about dance. It's the thread that weaves through my very being. The stories behind the steps, the elegance of a graceful leap, the emotional depth conveyed by a simple tilt of the head... ballet takes my breath away!
Of course, all this dancing needs to be funded, which is why I'm travelling the world (and looking utterly fabulous doing it) while performing. I'm blessed to have a gift, a talent, a passion that takes me on these wonderful journeys, and I can’t help but share my experiences with you all!
And oh, let’s not forget about my other true love: tutus. It’s not a love affair I keep hidden, tucked away in a dusty cupboard, no, this is a passionate, public affair! It's about expressing myself, about showcasing my individuality, about embracing the whimsical side of life… and believe me, a pink tutu can make even the most ordinary day feel extraordinary.
Anyway, back to Vienna!
My week began with the Vienna State Opera, a venue that exudes glamour and grandeur, with ornate ceilings, opulent chandeliers, and that lingering scent of history in the air. I went for their classic performance of "Giselle." Let me tell you, darling, the performance was truly magical. Every movement, every gesture, was imbued with such tenderness and passion. The final act, with the corps de ballet swirling around the stage in an ethereal haze of white tulle, brought tears to my eyes!
Afterwards, I had the most delightful afternoon exploring the Schönbrunn Palace gardens, enjoying a warm apricot strudel and a generous slice of the legendary Sachertorte with whipped cream. I know, I know… "Emma, indulging your sweet tooth again!" But let's be honest, what's a trip to Vienna without a little Viennese indulgence?
On Friday, I was completely absorbed in a ballet class at the prestigious Vienna State Ballet school. You would think, having been a dancer for over a decade, that I'd be a pro in the class, but those Viennese dancers, they were on fire! Their technique, the crispness of their movements, the sheer strength… I could only stand in awe. It's so inspiring to witness a dedication and artistry of such high calibre, even just as a spectator.
Then came the moment I’d been waiting for - a trip to the Hofburg Palace. Oh my goodness! This place oozes history in every gilded corner, and it has the most stunning ballroom, I mean just imagine the parties held there over the years! I felt a chill of excitement just walking through the halls and trying to imagine the Empress Sisi, who by the way, I was just beginning to learn more about (what a fashion icon!). It was like stepping back in time, and even I couldn't resist a photo or two in front of the ornate facade. (Follow me on Insta if you haven't already @pinktutueva!).
Saturday afternoon, and my week was crowned with a ballet-themed excursion, visiting the wonderful Wiener Staatsoper, and watching the captivating "La Traviata." I had my eye on a gorgeous, silky magenta scarf (almost a matching shade to my tulle, of course!) in a local shop on the way, and what a delight it was! My latest purchase is looking especially elegant draped on a delicate chair in my hotel room. The opera itself was a pure visual feast! I was completely immersed in the storytelling and emotions, swept away by the drama and beauty of the music. I especially loved the final scene - it was heartbreaking, beautiful, and just a little bit too romantic for words.
The week wrapped up with a magical Sunday horse and carriage ride around the city. With the sun shining on my pink tutu, (did I mention I was rocking a beautiful pink feather boa?) it felt like something straight out of a fairy tale. Just imagining I was one of the lovely ladies in a Vienna waltzing around in a ball gown, but with my own twist of whimsy and, well, tutu.
And so, my lovely readers, I leave you with a whisper of pink tutu dust and a promise to be back next week with more tales of my Viennese adventures! I’m aiming for a grand ballroom experience and maybe a whirl on the Ferris wheel (that would make for a fabulous picture with a pink tutu backdrop)! I can’t wait!
Until then, may your days be filled with joy, pink tutus, and a healthy dose of Viennese charm.
With love and sparkles,
Emma x
