Vienna Calling: Tutu-licious Adventures in the City of Waltz

Hello, darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed blogger, reporting live from Vienna, Austria! This is post number 877, and you know what that means - another week of fabulous finds and girly adventures!

Oh my goodness, Vienna is truly magical! Imagine strolling through the streets, the smell of coffee and pastries wafting in the air, beautiful Baroque architecture around every corner, and the sound of waltz music filling the air! I’m feeling like I’ve stepped right into a Viennese opera, except I’m not wearing a floor-length gown, I’m wearing my most fabulous pink tutu. Honestly, I've never felt more at home. It's almost as if the entire city is swirling around a delicate, whimsical, pink ballet!

I've been in Vienna for three days now, and I’ve already packed in more tutus, waltzes, and fashion than my tiny pink suitcase can possibly contain! My journey here was an absolute delight. I boarded the train in Derbyshire, all ready to embrace the thrill of continental travel, with a fluffy pink pillow, a comfy blanket, and a bag overflowing with delicious treats from the local bakery. I'm not sure why, but everything tastes sweeter in the countryside - perhaps it’s the fresh air and the sound of sheep baa-ing. It's quite frankly magical!

I have to say, though, my absolute favourite mode of transportation has been a majestic chestnut horse! He is truly divine - sleek, powerful, and perfectly mannered, even when adorned with a sparkling pink bridle and matching pink saddle. My journey through the scenic Austrian countryside on his back was utterly enchanting, a dream come true for any tutu-wearing ballerina. And just for the record, it's a perfectly acceptable way to arrive in Vienna. 😉

And speaking of dreams come true, this city is teeming with them! You wouldn't believe the fashion finds I've uncovered here! From stunning vintage shops filled with elegant furs and elaborate gowns to designer boutiques showcasing the latest haute couture, this city truly understands the meaning of style! And of course, my pink tutu has been causing a sensation! Imagine my surprise when a little girl in a beautiful blue dress shyly asked me if I could teach her to twirl like a ballerina! It’s moments like that, my dears, that truly make all the tutus and travels worthwhile.

But fashion and fluff aren't all that Vienna is about. This city is overflowing with culture, history, and captivating stories just waiting to be discovered! Just yesterday, I spent a few glorious hours in the Schönbrunn Palace. Talk about fairytale! You’ve got beautiful gardens bursting with vibrant blooms, majestic staircases adorned with marble, and the most magnificent chandeliers I've ever laid eyes on - all adorned in twinkling crystals! It's like a beautiful dream.

Naturally, as a passionate ballet aficionado, I couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to see a ballet performance at the world-renowned Vienna State Opera! Imagine - a building steeped in history, an opulent interior bursting with ornate details and magnificent acoustics! The ballet was breathtaking. My eyes were glued to the stage as the dancers glided across the polished wood floor, every movement fluid and captivating. They told stories with their bodies, communicating emotions through the art of dance!

To be completely honest, after a rather long, drawn-out performance at the ballet school earlier that day, I must admit that I shed a single teardrop as the ballerinas waltzed. It wasn’t sad - just happy, for these artists are so beautifully talented and dedicated to their art! And in Vienna, there's a certain je ne sais quoi about the magic of the ballet. The very air here seems infused with a sense of romanticism and wonder.

Today, I'm planning to explore the beautiful gardens surrounding the Schönbrunn Palace, with my camera in hand, searching for the perfect Instagrammable moments. Perhaps I’ll try to take a few twirls myself - nothing says "Vienna chic" quite like a tutu twirl in the midst of stunning architecture. And as a bonus, this trip is also giving me lots of inspiration for my tutu collection! Maybe a beautiful pastel pink tulle tutu, reminiscent of the beautiful gardens, with tiny crystal embellishments reflecting the sparkle of the city’s lights? Oh, the possibilities!

Of course, my adventures in Vienna wouldn't be complete without a bit of local fare. I must tell you about this magnificent Sachertorte! Imagine - chocolate sponge layered with apricot jam and glazed with dark chocolate! I've never tasted anything so decadent! I'm tempted to try another one as we speak.

I also discovered this delightful cafe right off the beaten track, a true gem. It's an old-world establishment, complete with mahogany wood panels, elegant chandeliers, and friendly servers who remember your orders after just one visit! You can’t beat that sort of charm and authenticity. And the coffee - it’s truly heavenly, with its rich, velvety texture and robust, but not overpowering aroma.

In between my waltzes and pastry adventures, I’m taking in some of Vienna’s most historical landmarks. There’s the grand Hofburg Palace, home to generations of Habsburg monarchs, the awe-inspiring St. Stephen’s Cathedral, its magnificent towers dominating the skyline, and the impressive Vienna State Opera, an iconic theatre bursting with artistic talent and grandeur. Honestly, the beauty of Vienna almost brings a tear to my eye.

As my week in Vienna winds down, my heart is brimming with delight and memories. Every single moment has been pure enchantment! And, just like every other adventure, I am leaving with a newfound love for the city and a deeper appreciation for the beauty of the world, as well as a new desire to travel and discover all the captivating secrets the globe has to offer.

Until next week, darlings, remember, the world is a stage waiting to be danced on!

Much love, Emma

What's happening today?

Well, today I’m visiting the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, an institution steeped in history. After all, what’s more Viennese than a beautiful waltzing symphony! And, in the afternoon, I’m going shopping! Nothing says fun quite like exploring the quaint and sophisticated shops of Vienna in my tutu!

Until next Wednesday, keep twirling!
