Post #964: Vienna, Waltz and Wonder
Wednesday 23rd October 2013
Oh darling, it's another glorious Wednesday, and you know what that means - it's time for another Pink Tutu Vienna blog post! This week I'm absolutely bursting with excitement to share my Vienna adventures with you. From waltzing in the grandest of palaces to exploring the depths of ballet history, this city has been an absolute dream.
As you know, darling, a bit of travelling is something I quite enjoy, and a recent performance in Derbyshire has provided just enough pennies to take me across the channel to Austria. Of course, I always make sure to pack my trusty pink tutu, and it's gone down a storm on the streets of Vienna, with people stopping me to compliment my "style".
Arriving at the train station in Vienna, the scent of freshly brewed coffee and strudel hung heavy in the air, setting the scene for a trip steeped in European charm. I decided to kick off my stay with a truly regal experience: a visit to Schönbrunn Palace, the summer residence of the Habsburg Emperors. Imagine, darling, a breathtaking Baroque masterpiece, with intricate gardens that are fit for a ballerina's most whimsical dreams.
While exploring the gardens, I stumbled upon the palace theatre, where they used to put on grand performances for the Imperial Court. You can practically feel the echoes of the waltzes and operas played within these walls. It was a moment of sheer inspiration, sparking so many ideas for my next tutu creation. After all, wouldn't it be utterly fabulous to create a tutu fit for an Empress?
Of course, no trip to Vienna would be complete without indulging in the waltz. In the afternoon, I found myself whirling around in the grand halls of the Hofburg Palace, learning the intricacies of this elegant dance from a local dance instructor. Imagine, darling, a magnificent hall bathed in golden sunlight, with the sound of music filling the air. I felt like I had stepped into a scene from a vintage movie! While it was a challenge at first to maintain balance in a pink tutu and learn the steps, by the end I was feeling as elegant and graceful as a swan.
As for fashion, Vienna is a haven for vintage finds and a great place to explore the style scene. I managed to stumble upon the most gorgeous shop in the Naschmarkt area, with shelves bursting with beautiful antique accessories and stunning vintage hats that I just couldn't resist. My tutu-clad silhouette is definitely looking fabulous and full of Viennese flair!
Vienna is also a fantastic place to delve into ballet history. The Vienna State Opera boasts an incredible legacy, with an awe-inspiring performance of Swan Lake on my schedule. To see Tchaikovsky's masterpiece danced in this opulent theatre is simply breathtaking. The beauty of the dancing and the powerful emotions conveyed through the movement left me spellbound. I've already begun thinking of new ways to integrate this classical elegance into my own style.
Of course, it's not all high society balls and grand operas. My stay in Vienna also involved exploring the Museum of Applied Arts, which had a fascinating collection of costumes and designs that took me on a visual journey through time. And, for a break from the excitement, there's nothing better than a walk in the park. Vienna is absolutely teeming with lovely green spaces, like the Stadtpark, where I spent an afternoon soaking in the sunshine and the crisp autumn air.
Darling, the time spent in Vienna has been a whirl of waltzes, history, and endless inspiration for my own pink tutu creations. The beauty of the city, its rich history, and the incredible stories I have gathered in my pink tutu have left me buzzing with energy.
I am now back in Derbyshire, inspired by Vienna and with the plans already formulating in my head for my next creation. After all, a little pink never goes amiss, does it?
Stay tuned for next Wednesday, darling, where I'll share more pink tutu escapades, this time in Paris!
Lots of love,
Emma xx
