Post #979: Vienna Waltz in Pink – A Ballerina's Dream

Dearest Pink Tutu followers,

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another Pink Tutu Vienna post! This week I've been twirling my way through Vienna, the city of music and dreams, where the very air seems to whisper a waltz. And let me tell you, my little pink tutu and I are absolutely smitten!

Vienna has been a lifelong dream for me, a ballerina-in-training with a love for history and the arts. Every cobblestone street feels like a stage, every grand palace a fairytale waiting to unfold. And what’s more exciting, Vienna is the heart of the waltz! You can’t imagine how giddy I feel knowing that this was the birthplace of that elegant, swirling dance that captured my heart.

The train journey from Derbyshire was pure bliss – a journey where the landscape unfolded like a watercolour painting. There’s just something magical about watching the world whisk past from a train window, especially when you’re surrounded by the anticipation of reaching a new and enchanting place. And yes, I wore my trusty pink tutu for the journey, of course! It’s a great conversation starter and, honestly, makes the train a bit more fabulous!

This time, though, I had a bit of a special travel companion – my handsome grey mare, Moonlight! My horse loves train journeys as much as I do, and we even manage to have a little practice session in the stable car during the quieter stretches. Nothing beats the feeling of freedom you get from riding through the countryside!

Arriving in Vienna was like stepping into a masterpiece – ornate architecture, buzzing street performers, and the faint smell of warm pastries wafting from every corner. It was overwhelming in the most delightful way possible!

I quickly settled into the charm of the city. Vienna oozes old world glamour – cafes filled with chatty locals sipping their Viennese coffee, stately buildings boasting stories of centuries past, and a lively energy that makes your heart sing! But the real magic started with my ballet-themed explorations, of course.

Vienna State Opera – An Ode to Elegance

You’ll never believe this – the Vienna State Opera was holding a ballet performance on this very day – "The Sleeping Beauty," one of my absolute favourites! The grand theatre is truly spectacular. The ornate ceilings, the velvet seats, the feeling of history and drama – it truly felt like I had walked onto the set of a ballet movie! And to make things even more special, they even have a gorgeous horse stable right beneath the theatre, which of course reminded me of Moonlight.

The performance was absolutely phenomenal. The dancers were incredible, the costumes dazzling, and the music, well, it made me want to leap and twirl in my own pink tutu. Afterwards, I found myself surrounded by people just as enthralled as I was, sharing stories and sipping champagne. It was a night to remember, and I felt like I had truly become part of the Vienna ballet world.

The Kunsthistorisches Museum - A Ballet Lover's Haven

Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without a visit to the Kunsthistorisches Museum. This extraordinary building is home to a treasure trove of art and artifacts – and I found myself spending a good amount of time exploring the works that depicted ballet and theatre scenes. The paintings, the sculptures, the fashion, the costumes – it's truly inspiring!

They had a whole room dedicated to costumes from historical ballet performances, which brought a sparkle to my eye! The details, the craftsmanship, and the artistry just blew my mind. The tutus in particular were magnificent - you know how I love me a good tutu! There were so many different styles, from the elegant bell-shaped tutus of the Romantic era to the more dramatic and structured designs of the early 20th century. I stood there mesmerized, feeling like I had stepped back in time to witness the very beginnings of ballet itself!

The Schonbrunn Palace - Twirling Amongst the Emperors

Vienna is famous for its grand palaces, but my personal favourite has to be the Schonbrunn Palace. This fairytale palace, with its gardens bursting with flowers and statues, felt like a perfectly preserved time capsule from the 18th century. The Habsburgs must have had fabulous parties there, with waltzes and grand balls swirling around those impressive ballrooms.

Imagine – all those grand ladies in their opulent gowns and beautiful ball gowns, and of course, they’d all be wearing some beautiful tutus. It made me want to pack my pink tutu in my suitcase and twirl amongst the emperors and empresses, dancing a waltz through those gilded halls.

A Viennese Coffee Waltz with my Pink Tutu

What is a trip to Vienna without a good cup of Viennese coffee? Oh, the magic of that first sip in a classic Viennese coffee house, the aromas of fresh pastries, the friendly chatter, and the clinking of china! It was a perfect break between sightseeing and indulging in some fashion therapy.

And of course, I was wearing my pink tutu! Why just be fashionable in the daytime? The city lights and the twinkling glow of coffee houses really compliment a good pink tutu, if I do say so myself.

Ballet Performances: A Sight to Behold

But this journey wasn’t all about the sights, my dears! My most cherished moments were at the various ballet performances scattered across the city. The waltz seemed to permeate every single performance I saw, whether it was a grand opera production or a street dancer's solo in front of a bustling marketplace.

I witnessed everything from contemporary interpretations of ballet classics, to stunning performances by rising stars from the Vienna State Ballet. There were even some incredible street performers that really showed off their twirling talents.

Everywhere I turned in Vienna, the magic of ballet unfolded before my eyes! I found myself dancing with the crowds, applauding fiercely, and whispering my love for ballet in the hushed silence of a grand concert hall.

My Love for Pink Tutus – Contagious?

There was something incredibly special about seeing all the amazing people here in Vienna – their love for art, culture, and all things beautiful. And it truly felt like they were ready to welcome my love of pink tutus. You can’t believe how many smiles and thumbs-up I got just by twirling and taking photos in my favourite pink tutu!

People stopped me, wanting to know about my love for the dance, my love for fashion, my love for my favourite pink tutu! Maybe they felt inspired, maybe they thought I was a little bit crazy (it wouldn't be the first time!), but that’s what makes Vienna so enchanting!

I believe that every city can benefit from a little bit of pink tutu magic. I want the whole world to wear a pink tutu – to embrace the joy, the freedom, the magic of twirling, of dancing, of simply enjoying the beauty around us.

Vienna has reminded me of the transformative power of art. It has reminded me of the magic that unfolds when we embrace our inner ballerina – even if we don't wear a tutu on a daily basis.

I'm still twirling through Vienna, my heart filled with a love for this beautiful city. Stay tuned for more adventures! Until next Wednesday, happy dancing and stay fabulous.

Yours in Pink,

Emma
