Pink Tutu Vienna - Post #986: Waltz into Wonderland!

Wednesday 26th March, 2014

Guten Tag, darling readers! Emma here, back from a whirlwind week in Vienna, the city that stole my heart, my soul, and frankly, most of my luggage space for all the pretty things I bought! This week has been pure magic, from twirling in the ballet studios of the Vienna State Opera to feasting on delicious Sachertorte in cafes that look straight out of a fairy tale. Letā€™s dive right into the pinkest, most whimsical adventures of my Vienna escapade!

Vienna - A City that Doesn't Stop Moving (Like a Ballerina, of course!)

From the moment I arrived, Vienna captivated me. Itā€™s the sort of city that hums with energy, with its beautiful architecture, the scent of Viennese coffee, and the melodic clinking of trams on the cobblestone streets. Even the air seems to waltz ā€“ I swear I could feel my body wanting to pirouette with every gust!

A Little History - But of the Ballerina Kind, Naturally

As you know, my tutu is more than just a fashion statement ā€“ itā€™s a symbol of elegance, artistry, and the captivating history of ballet. And Vienna, dear friends, is practically dripping in ballet history! Did you know that the famous Viennese waltz was often performed with a ballerina twirling in the center? Itā€™s true! And you know whatā€™s even more fascinating? The Tutu has an equally intriguing history! From the original shorter lengths in the 1700s to the billowing romantic styles of the 19th century, the evolution of the tutu has been as captivating as a ballet performance itself. In Vienna, I was practically breathing in the history of dance as I wandered through the stately museums and majestic opera houses, a symphony of elegance and history!

My First Ballet in Vienna ā€“ Pure Bliss!

A ballerina in Vienna, of course, MUST see the Vienna State Opera! My dress of choice ā€“ you guessed it ā€“ a beautiful blush pink tutu, adorned with a cluster of pearl-like crystals, glittering in the soft Vienna light. It was truly a show-stopping entrance. I swear I felt like a character out of a storybook, waltzing through the beautiful foyer to take my seat for an evening of pure balletic bliss.

And the ballet itselfā€¦ breathtaking! It was Giselle ā€“ the classic tale of a betrayed young woman, with its haunting beauty and stunning performances. I almost got tears in my eyes, watching those talented dancers paint emotions onto the stage with their every gesture, their leaps, their pirouettes. It was magic, I tell you, and every single cell in my ballerina-loving body was in awe.

Taking Class in a World of Pink & Poise

The next day, I wanted to feel like a proper Vienna ballerina myself. So I decided to attend a ballet class at the most famous dance studio in Vienna, the ā€œVienna State Opera Ballet School.ā€ Of course, the moment I walked into the studio, with its mirrored walls and soft light, it felt as though Iā€™d been transported back to the Victorian era, the perfect environment for elegant and sophisticated practice. The instructor was lovely, her French braid practically shimmering under the studioā€™s beautiful crystal chandelier! And guess what I wore to class? You guessed it ā€“ another exquisite pink tutu, this time a short, ruffled beauty that danced with me as I perfected my jetĆ© and pirouette! It was exhilarating and it felt just so glamorous.

My Pink-tastic Vienna Shopping Spree

It would be practically criminal to visit Vienna without engaging in a shopping spree! And naturally, the colour I had my eye on was the most fashionable and sophisticated colour in existence: pink. Vienna boasts an array of charming boutiques with an amazing selection of stunning clothes and accessories. The vintage clothing stores held some absolute gems - you wouldnā€™t believe the beautiful vintage tutus I unearthed, perfect for a night out on the town. I also stumbled upon a gorgeous pink silk scarf at a street market ā€“ such delicate embroidery, Iā€™ll be twirling through London with that thing on, youā€™ll see. And of course, no visit to Vienna is complete without a slice of Sachertorte! This cake was pink in my dreamsā€¦

Travel with Style - On the Tracks and On Horseback!

Getting around Vienna is an adventure in itself! This city has an amazing train network that makes exploring a breeze. You just can't go wrong with train travel, you can soak in the sights and enjoy the journey at the same time. I was so mesmerized by the picturesque scenery of Vienna. The fields, the old churches, the buildingsā€¦ the whole atmosphere feels like a movie scene. But there's another, less usual way to travel here: by horseback. Yes, Iā€™m talking about the Viennese Lipizzan stallions. Can you imagine? I was invited to visit a stunning Lipizzaner stables and it was almost surreal. Just the sight of those majestic creatures with their flowing white manes and graceful movements - my ballerina soul practically soared. It was such a powerful experience. I was tempted to attempt a little ballet on their backsā€¦ well, I could almost manage to do that, with a little practiceā€¦

My Vienna - The Waltz Goes On

This week in Vienna has been unforgettable, my darlings. Every street corner, every glimpse of the grand architecture, every single melody on the air ā€“ itā€™s truly enchanting. I have danced my way into this cityā€™s heart, and Vienna, in turn, has waltzed her way into mine. My mission to inspire everyone to wear a pink tutu is moving right along! Vienna, you are a ballerinaā€™s dream come true, a place where elegance and history twirl hand-in-hand. I shall never forget the magic I witnessed in this wondrous city. So until next week, darlings!

Stay pink and keep twirling, Emma x
