Vienna, My Love, In My Pink Tutu! #1034
Dearest readers,
The air crackles with a certain joie de vivre here in Vienna, don’t you think? I arrived yesterday, whisked away by a magnificent train ride across the Alps. I couldn’t resist donning my new pink polka-dot tulle skirt (it matches my adorable little travel hat with the pink ribbon!) for the journey, as you can imagine. It was simply the most elegant way to arrive in this beautiful city!
I love Vienna. I remember my first visit years ago - I was absolutely spellbound by the waltz music drifting out from every cafe, by the elegant architecture, and the grand balls held in the historic palaces. Vienna, to me, is a city of romance, grandeur, and, of course, beautiful ballet! I do love my waltzes, and this city is the true birthplace of the waltz!
So, without further ado, let me share my adventures from this magical city...
Tutu Shopping Spree!
You all know how I adore my tutus - they make any outfit just so wonderfully magical. So, today was all about finding the perfect Viennese tutus for my collection! My first stop was the magnificent "The Fabric Store" in the centre of the city. I fell in love with the most amazing silk, a softest pink you ever did see! It was just calling out to be made into the most delicate tutu! I must return and see what marvels await, it had such a beautiful range of fabrics! And naturally, I bought some matching pink thread for good measure. After that, it was on to a quaint little vintage clothing store tucked away down a side street. Inside, amongst a wonderland of silk and sequins, I found the most delightful, hand-stitched tutu. It's just begging to be worn for an afternoon tea party at one of the gorgeous Viennese cafes. It was simply perfect, the color and design!
History of the Tutu, Viennese Style
There's just something about seeing ballet's grand history woven through the city’s tapestry, isn't there? So today, I spent the afternoon wandering the opulent halls of the Vienna State Opera House, dreaming of the glorious performances it has witnessed through the centuries!
Did you know that the first "tutu" (which, originally, was just a calf-length skirt) debuted on a Paris stage, right around 1832? And in 1837, it came to the Viennese State Opera - this historic theatre witnessed some of the very first tutus in the world! So impressive! It's incredible to think that every graceful turn, every leap, every twirl performed on that very stage over the decades had helped define the beauty of ballet’s evolution!
As you know, my readers, the tutu is much more than a simple garment. It symbolises the beauty of grace, of elegance, and the dream of a ballerina. Every feather and sequin, every layer of tulle is a testament to this enduring passion, which I so passionately share with you all!
Tonight’s Ballet
Oh, and wouldn't you know it? Tonight is ballet night! I will be attending the most delightful "Giselle" performance at the Vienna State Opera. Just the thought of it makes my toes curl with anticipation! Imagine, watching graceful ballerinas dancing the haunting tale of a young country girl in love, with breathtaking choreography and exquisite costumes, all in this historic theatre. Could it be any more romantic?
Dancing and Dressing, My Lovely Readers!
In this stunning city of Vienna, even a day spent shopping and visiting museums is a wonderful ballet in itself! It's a dance of discovery, of fashion, and of a celebration of the little luxuries life offers! Just seeing all the beautifully dressed ladies strolling the cobbled streets, each one with her own distinct style, fills my heart with joy! The Viennese love to dress, and it's inspiring. I’ve spotted some wonderful outfits in my short stay, but I can't go without a new vintage pink coat (with a delicate pearl button!) Tomorrow I shall scour the boutiques in search of one.
Speaking of shopping, the Vienna flea markets have me absolutely enthralled! Such hidden treasures can be found there - I can imagine it wouldn’t be difficult to discover an adorable, old pink tutu amongst the treasures!
I can't wait to explore more of Vienna in my pink tutu, from the magnificent palaces and charming cafes, to the horse-drawn carriages that carry visitors on elegant journeys through the city's romantic streets. The perfect way to feel like a princess, right?
Do join me for more of my Viennese adventures next Wednesday.
With all my love,
Emma xx
P.S. Did you know, "The Phantom of the Opera", the most famous and successful musical ever, premiered here in Vienna on October 11th, 1986, right here at the Theater an der Wien? It makes me wonder what magical story is hidden behind the old cobbled streets and baroque buildings!
