Vienna Waltz: A Pink Tutu Paradise (Post #1137)

Wednesday, 15th February 2017

Darling readers,

Vienna! Oh, Vienna! The very name whispers of waltzes, pastries, and opulent palaces - and this week, your Pink Tutu Princess is completely smitten with this stunning city.

Travelling in Style

I arrived by train, of course, as any self-respecting ballerina would. A train journey is so romantic - gazing out the window at the passing countryside, writing in my diary, and indulging in a cuppa (it wouldn't be a true English adventure without one!). It was a long journey, but well worth it.

Vienna greeted me with a gentle breeze and a sky the colour of a ballerina's satin slipper - oh, how I love those perfect pinks and blues. The air was filled with the music of horse-drawn carriages - the clip-clop, clip-clop rhythm perfectly echoed in the thump of my own heart. Yes, I took a carriage ride. I just couldn't resist - how else could I truly embrace the magic of Vienna? My little pink tutu fluttered in the wind as we ambled past the magnificent buildings. It felt like stepping into a storybook!

Vienna's Ballerina Heartbeat

Speaking of stories, Vienna is practically brimming with ballet history. I couldn't wait to visit the Staatsoper, Vienna’s prestigious opera house, which opened in 1869. Stepping inside was like stepping back in time – plush red velvet seating, elegant chandeliers shimmering overhead, and a sense of grandeur that took my breath away. Imagine all the grand balls and magnificent performances that must have graced this stage over the years!

The Opera Ball, held each February, was a hot topic of conversation when I mentioned to a kind lady in a local cafe that I was a ballerina. She shared with me how this annual gala, where everyone dons their finest attire, was a testament to the enduring elegance and love for ballet in Vienna. I was smitten. Imagine a room filled with sparkling ball gowns, shimmering tiaras, and… pink tutus, of course! Just the thought sends my heart aflutter.

Shopping for Sparkle

Naturally, no trip to Vienna would be complete without a little shopping! The boutiques lining the cobbled streets here are filled with charming and sophisticated clothing. I fell in love with a beautiful ivory silk blouse - perfect for a ballerina’s elegant style. The sales assistant, a sweet girl with the sweetest smile, insisted I try on a little velvet beret too. She told me she found the whole ballerina thing quite endearing – who wouldn’t, really?

I also purchased a delicate silk scarf with a hand-painted design, the swirling lines and colours just perfect for the vibrant artistry that emanates from this beautiful city. I love adding these touches to my ensemble - my tutu stays the constant, the statement piece, but I do like to explore different accessories to complement it. It's all about embracing those feminine details and creating a visual ballet with each look, darling.

Vienna’s Ballerina Secrets

Tonight, I am attending a special performance at the Vienna State Opera – a classic ballet by Tchaikovsky, "The Nutcracker." The mere thought of it makes my feet want to tap, and my fingers yearn to reach for the satin ribbon of my beloved pink tutu.

Vienna is definitely a city for ballerinas, and I can’t wait to share more of my discoveries with you in the days to come! In the meantime, I will continue to explore, shop for fabulous ballet-inspired treasures, and dance my heart out!

Stay tuned for more delightful tales of my Viennese adventures… and be sure to wear your pink tutu with pride. It's a wonderful world out there waiting for you!

Love,

Emma
