Vienna Calling: A Pink Tutu Wonderland! (Blog Post #1139)

Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, your favourite tutu-tastic travel blogger, back from another whirlwind adventure – this time, it’s Vienna, the city of music, culture, and of course, waltzing!

As you know, I love nothing more than a good train journey – the clatter of the wheels, the rush of wind as you zoom past countryside, and the excitement building with every passing station. My trip to Vienna started just like that, a train journey straight from my charming Derbyshire village, filled with dreams of waltzing and waltzes, palaces and pink pastries.

Now, I’m not going to lie – I did feel a tad self-conscious stepping off the train in Vienna wearing my newest pink tutu (I got it in a little boutique in Salzburg, it’s silk, oh so luxurious!). I was surrounded by smartly-dressed people, elegant businesswomen, and even a few charming gents in traditional lederhosen. I felt like a burst of colour, a pink explosion in a world of neutral tones! But then, as I gazed around and realised I was surrounded by the sheer beauty and history of this amazing city, I felt the self-doubt fade away. After all, Vienna is known for its grand balls and its opulent attire, so a little pink never hurt anyone!

My first stop in Vienna was the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace. I felt like I’d stepped back in time, strolling through those manicured gardens, imagining Empress Sisi twirling in a grand ballgown in one of those elegant ballrooms. The history here just swirled around me, and the air was filled with echoes of the past. Naturally, my pink tutu was the perfect accompaniment to this scene. Who could resist a photo shoot with such a breathtaking backdrop? The Palace Gardens looked particularly splendid with the first buds of spring peeking out. They’ll be absolutely glorious in a few weeks' time.

My Vienna exploration wasn't just about waltzing and palaces – it was also about food. Vienna has some incredible restaurants, but you know me – I always make a beeline for a patisserie! I devoured the most delightful pink macarons filled with creamy pistachio paste, the colour of a ballet slipper, and the flavour, oh the flavour! And don't get me started on the Apfelstrudel. That puff pastry, that sweet apple filling – absolute heaven! There was a slight debate whether it should be dusted with powdered sugar or icing sugar… personally, I love the icing sugar; it makes everything extra special.

Now, I can't talk about Vienna without mentioning its amazing ballet scene. I just had to take a ballet class at the Wiener Staatsoper. Can you imagine my excitement?! Being surrounded by so many passionate dancers, all of us wearing tutus (although mine, of course, was the most glorious!) and learning beautiful ballet routines, with that amazing opera house as our stage. The sheer elegance of the place and the dedication of the dancers filled my heart with joy. After class, I got to sit in the front row, all comfy, with my trusty hot chocolate (chocolate is a must, no matter what!), to enjoy the beautiful dancers perform. And it’s no surprise, those dancers were absolutely magnificent. If there's one thing that never fails to fill me with wonder and awe, it’s watching the sheer talent and beauty of ballet. There was something truly magical in seeing all that skill, precision, and artistic expression take shape on the stage, and in the audience's awe-struck expressions.

Speaking of things magical, you're not truly in Vienna without taking a horse-drawn carriage ride around the city! I have to say, the charming trot of the horses along those cobblestone streets, the jingle of the harnesses, and the views of the city – it’s truly romantic! I, of course, took a leisurely ride in a beautiful pink carriage – matching my pink tutu! It was so perfect, I felt like I’d stepped straight out of a fairytale. And the best part? I got to have some incredible photo-ops! Just picture a pink-tutu wearing girl in a pink carriage surrounded by the magnificent city of Vienna… a beautiful, pink explosion of a moment.

But it’s not all palaces, pastries, and pink! I also found time to indulge my shopping addiction! Vienna is home to some amazing shops filled with fabulous designer clothes and gorgeous accessories. My purse cried out in anguish, but hey, a girl has to treat herself now and then! I found the most charming vintage boutique tucked away on a quiet side street where I found the most amazing embroidered waistcoat, and I'll never forget the scent of that little store; it reminded me of old-world glamour and a touch of magic.

All in all, my trip to Vienna was a complete and utter dream. This city, with its captivating history, beautiful architecture, amazing culture, and friendly people, left a deep and lasting impression on me. But it's the vibrant heart, the infectious joy, and the graceful beauty that really stole my heart, reminding me of why I love traveling, why I love sharing my adventures with you, and why, well, a pink tutu is always the perfect outfit.
