Pink Tutu Vienna - Blog Post #1141 - Vienna Waltz & Whimsical Wonders

Hello, my darling Tutu-Twirlers! It’s Wednesday, so it's time for another dazzling installment of Pink Tutu Vienna, brought to you live from the heart of Austria's most beautiful city. This week, my suitcase is bursting with pink and I’m overflowing with excitement for all the lovely things I’ve planned – all while wearing, of course, my trusty pink tutu.

It's hard to believe that I'm back in Vienna already. It seems like only yesterday I was saying "auf wiedersehen" (goodbye) to this enchanting city! It really feels like home away from home. You see, Vienna has been calling me back, pulling me in like the mesmerizing rhythm of a waltz. It's not just the breathtaking architecture, the delicious coffee, the decadent Sachertorte (seriously, go get one – you won't regret it!), it's also the palpable energy that makes this city sing.

Speaking of singing, did you know that today marks the birthday of the amazing Austrian opera singer, Franz Lehar? He's the genius behind the sparkling and captivating "The Merry Widow", one of my absolute favourite operettas! I think it’s high time we all took a bow in appreciation of the man who brought so much laughter and magic to the world through his music. Oh, and it also wouldn't be Vienna without a mention of Johann Strauss, would it? I'm making a beeline to the Vienna State Opera House tonight for a grand performance of Die Fledermaus, another Austrian gem, a wonderful and romantic opera about... drum roll a bat!

Speaking of magical things, Vienna is a wonderland for tutu-lovers like me. This city has got its very own waltz – and its very own dance – the Viennese Waltz, which, with its graceful elegance and romantic swirling, absolutely calls out for a perfect pink tutu to twirl alongside it. Can you imagine, dear readers, waltzing through the opulent salons of Vienna, a vision of pink tutu magic?

For those of you who, like me, have a fascination with tutus, there are all sorts of wonderful places to delve into the history of tutus right here in Vienna! The Vienna History Museum boasts a fantastic collection of ballet costumes and it's definitely a must-see for anyone with a twirling heart. But I have a secret: Vienna also holds a special place in tutu history! Did you know that Maria Taglioni, a real pioneer of the tutu, actually performed here in Vienna in the 19th century? Talk about leaving a glittering footprint on history!

It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Vienna post without a little fashion talk, would it? This week, I'm in love with my latest discovery: The Schönbrunn Palace shop! It's like stepping into a fairytale – the shop is filled with treasures for those who love Viennese design, delicate accessories, and of course, fashion-forward ideas for your own pink tutu wardrobe. Oh, I do so love the way that Vienna blends its imperial past with modern design flair. It’s this unique style that makes it so easy to fall in love with this place, don’t you think?

And of course, my beloved Vienna wouldn't be complete without some delightful food adventures! This week, I'm all about exploring the vibrant Naschmarkt - it's an incredible hub of delicious food stalls, exotic flavours, and the most delightful atmosphere. Don't forget to try some of the Austrian apple strudel; I'm having a little one later today as a post-ballet-show treat. Oh, speaking of ballet shows, I'm absolutely delighted to say that this evening I'll be seeing The Sleeping Beauty performed by the renowned Vienna State Opera Ballet – talk about an enchanting spectacle! It's already on my list of the "Best Ballet Moments Ever" - the sheer artistry, the elegance, the passion, and, of course, the tutus! My Pink Tutu is feeling incredibly inspired, to say the least.

But before I head off to the opera house, I want to take a little trip back in time with all of you – to explore Vienna's vibrant history through its palaces, museums, and gardens! The Schönbrunn Palace, the Hofburg Palace, the Belvedere Palace… they are absolutely breathtaking! And the gardens surrounding them are just as exquisite, making for a perfect place to practice your graceful twirls, naturally! I do love the contrast of the majestic past and the vibrant energy of the present in this captivating city. Vienna truly captures my heart – it’s filled with music, dancing, magic, and fashion… just like the Pink Tutu dreamscape I live in!

But for now, it’s time for me to head off and indulge in some delightful Viennese coffee – perhaps with a delicious pastry to accompany it! – before the performance at the opera house this evening. Vienna’s calling, my darlings! I’ll leave you all with this: if you want to make life a little more glamorous, then add a touch of pink tutu magic – I promise it’s absolutely wonderful.
