Pink Tutu Vienna: A Whirlwind of Waltz and Wiener Schnitzel - Post #1187

Hello my darling tutu-twirling darlings! Emma here, back from a magical trip to the majestic Vienna, the city of waltzes and Sachertorte. This week's post is going to be a little bit extra, as my trip was truly unforgettable. Think tutus, pink, grand balls, history, and just a sprinkle of the most exquisite Viennese culture – prepare to have your hearts whisked away!

It all began on a crisp Derbyshire morning, the perfect time to layer up in a pink fluffy cardigan, my favourite tulle tutu, and of course, my pink patent ballet shoes – for who wouldn't want to start their adventure with a touch of whimsical glamour? I hopped aboard the Eurostar train, ready for a romantic journey across Europe, the smell of fresh croissants wafting from the carriage, a delightful anticipation hanging in the air. The train is definitely my favourite way to travel - I can watch the scenery fly by as I imagine all the beautiful ballet performances I might see along the way.

Arriving in Vienna felt like stepping into a fairy tale. The city pulsed with an elegant charm, the majestic buildings glowing under the winter sun. The city's iconic architecture, with its swirling Baroque patterns, had me mesmerized – a dancer's dream, truly! The air was filled with the strains of waltz music, so beautiful and graceful, just begging you to twirl. And of course, everywhere I looked there was pink - in the candy shops, the pink cherry blossom trees, even the charming pink teacups in the cafes - it was like stepping into my own personal tutu paradise!

As a ballerina, Vienna holds a very special place in my heart. It’s the city of the Waltz, where music and movement are entwined in the very fabric of life! My itinerary was jam-packed with exciting adventures:

Dancing in the Golden Hall: Of course, I had to pay homage to the world-renowned Vienna State Opera House. I attended a glorious performance of “The Nutcracker”, and oh, the sheer opulence of it all! The gilded architecture, the plush velvet seats, the magical storytelling brought to life – it was an absolute ballet dream. And then there was the orchestra! Every note resonated through the hall, and my heart truly skipped a beat with the pure joy of it all.

Ballet History in a Whirlwind: Vienna’s ballet heritage is rich and enchanting, spanning centuries. I had to delve into its fascinating past, exploring museums showcasing ballet costumes, design, and the captivating story of ballet itself. I loved immersing myself in the world of tutus and tights, ballet slippers, and the history of pointe shoes! I also took a fascinating walking tour where I discovered secret ballet haunts and stories of legendary ballerinas - so captivating!

Fashion & Whimsy: Vienna is a shopaholic's paradise! From the stunning vintage stores filled with pre-loved couture treasures to the chic boutiques displaying the latest designs, it’s an absolute haven for a pink tutu enthusiast like myself! I indulged in a luxurious shopping spree, finding myself an exquisite pink silk scarf, a hand-crafted ballerina brooch, and even a new pair of tutu-inspired earrings!

Cuisine Fit for a Princess: No trip to Vienna is complete without indulging in the city's culinary delights. The Viennese food scene is like a fairytale in itself. From the irresistible “Wiener Schnitzel” and the divine Sachertorte, to the array of delightful cafes brimming with pastries, each bite was a testament to the city's rich gastronomical traditions. Of course, I even found a special bakery that sold delicious pink meringue kisses and petit fours – I couldn't resist bringing a few back as a souvenir!

And now, for a glimpse of what my day looked like today, 31st January 2018:

  • Morning: I started my day with a luxurious Viennese breakfast - coffee, croissant, and of course, a fluffy pink doughnut. After, I took a leisurely stroll through the city centre, taking in the stunning architecture of the Stephansdom, Vienna’s beautiful cathedral. There's just something about this city that sparks my creativity – so many colours and so much beauty. I felt so inspired to try a new ballet move!

  • Afternoon: The highlight of my day was attending a delightful classical concert at the Musikverein – an iconic concert hall known for its stunning acoustics and elegant ambiance. The symphony was exquisite, a true treat for the soul. I swear, even the flowers in the concert hall were sporting pink accents – perhaps the Vienna fairy herself had sprinkled a little bit of pink magic.

  • Evening: After indulging in a decadent Sachertorte at the Cafe Sacher, I embarked on a horse-drawn carriage ride through the enchanting streets. Imagine gliding through the city streets under the soft glow of the streetlights, with a charming carriage driver in his top hat and coat, and of course, a symphony of waltzes playing gently in the background – Pure romantic magic! The perfect way to end an already magical day.

As always, I hope this week’s blog has given you a little dose of the Pink Tutu Vienna magic.

Before I go, I want to give you a little challenge! I love seeing photos of you all embracing your inner pink tutu! Take a snap in your favourite tutu and send it to me on Twitter with the hashtag #PinkTutuTravels! Who knows, maybe you'll be featured on the blog next week!

Until next Wednesday, when I’ll be sharing my adventures from the beautiful city of Prague – keep dancing and always remember:

A tutu is a celebration of the power and joy of ballet, and there's a pink one out there for every girl!

Much love,
