Pink Tutu Vienna: Ballet Dreams and Viennese Whirlwinds (Post 1200)

Hello lovelies! It's your favourite pink tutu wearing, ballet-obsessed blogger, Emma, back with another Wednesday blog post, direct from the heart of Vienna! Can you believe it's already the 2nd of May? Time truly does fly when you're twirling your way through life. 🩰

This week, I'm practically bursting with excitement! Not only have I had the absolute pleasure of seeing two incredible ballet performances, but I also indulged in a little shopping spree for my pink tutu wardrobe and even took a delightful ride on a horse-drawn carriage through the city. Oh, Vienna, you really know how to spoil a ballerina!

So, buckle up your dancing shoes, darling readers, and let's dive into the wonderful world of Pink Tutu Vienna!

A Night of Ballerina Bliss:

As many of you know, Vienna is practically a haven for ballet lovers. The Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), is a world-renowned venue with stunning acoustics and some of the most impressive ballet performances I've ever seen. This week, I had the joy of experiencing a breathtaking performance of Giselle, a classic tale of love, betrayal, and a haunting tale of ghostly spirits. The choreography was exquisite, the costumes utterly gorgeous, and the passion and emotion radiating from the dancers just stole my heart.

Speaking of beautiful costumes, darling, I couldn't help but notice the exquisite detailing on the tutus. They were pure Victorian romanticism, complete with shimmering satin, flowing tulle, and an intricate web of delicate lace. It's amazing to see how tutu design has evolved through history. Giselle's tutus had such a timeless elegance, so different from the more contemporary tutus I've seen on the stages of London's Royal Opera House. This little ballerina certainly had a lesson or two to learn!

The next day, I ventured to the Theater an der Wien, which is another historic and impressive theatre. There I witnessed a truly spectacular rendition of Swan Lake. Imagine a shimmering sea of white tulle, with graceful swans flitting across the stage. It was magical! And don't even get me started on the magnificent costumes – they were truly a sight to behold. I was utterly mesmerized by the whole experience!

A Whimsical Ride Through History

While Vienna is truly a ballet lover's paradise, it's also a city rich in history. This week, I decided to take a leisurely carriage ride through the city centre. Picture this: a magnificent black horse, with a polished leather harness, pulling a charming old carriage, and me, wearing my most extravagant pink tutu (naturally), sitting back and enjoying the sights and sounds of Vienna.

The horses were gentle and well cared for, and the coachman was an absolute gem. He shared fascinating anecdotes about the city's history, pointing out the iconic sights, including the magnificent Vienna State Opera House, the Imperial Palace, and St. Stephen's Cathedral. It was like stepping back in time, feeling like a princess from a fairytale.

Pink Tutu Shopping Spree

Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without a bit of shopping! And believe me, this city has a wealth of charming boutiques and department stores. My aim was to stock up on the perfect tutus for upcoming performances and my wardrobe needs. You'll never guess what I found...

First, I discovered a hidden gem in the heart of the city - a quaint boutique that specialises in vintage lace. This was absolute heaven for my tutu-loving soul! The shop owner, a woman with a heart of gold and a love for the arts, showed me a truly exquisite collection of old lace that was practically begging to be turned into a magnificent tutu! Imagine my delight! I spent what felt like hours poring over her collection and dreaming up future creations. You'll have to wait and see what I create, darling!

Of course, I also couldn't resist a visit to Vienna's legendary department store, "The Vienna" - a majestic shopping haven with a staggering variety of exquisite fashion labels. While the temptation of Chanel and Dior was tempting, I was there on a mission! And after a good two hours of hunting, I finally found what I was looking for – the perfect pink tulle. This glorious piece of fabric is silky, voluminous, and oh-so-perfect for my latest creation! The pink, naturally, is a sparkling "Bubble Gum Pink". A truly perfect shade for an ethereal, whimsical design.

Ballet History is My Happy Place

Every city has a story to tell, and Vienna's history is deeply intertwined with the arts, especially ballet. You could say it's a ballerina's dream come true!

This week, I visited the Palais Liechtenstein. Not only does it have an exquisite art collection, it also houses the Austrian National Library. Inside, I spent an afternoon browsing their vast collection of rare books and historical archives – you guessed it – focused on the history of ballet and dance. I stumbled upon fascinating documents about Vienna's ballet traditions, complete with sketches, illustrations, and even vintage photographs. This was a ballerina’s haven! It was utterly fascinating to see the development of the art through the centuries, tracing the origins of modern ballet, discovering the influential ballerina of the Viennese court, Marie Taglioni and her iconic performance of the La Sylphide.

It’s incredible to think of all the famous ballet dancers and choreographers who have graced the stage of Vienna’s historic theaters! This city truly holds a special place in the history of ballet, and it feels amazing to be part of that tradition.

Next Week, Vienna Adventures

Next week I'll be delving into the world of Viennese dance. It wouldn't be a proper ballet tour without learning the steps of a Viennese Waltz. It’s a dance born in Vienna! Imagine a whirling symphony of elegant steps, twirling and swirling around with grace and passion.

Speaking of grace and passion, dear readers, this weekend, I will be performing at a gala event, for a fabulous cause that is near and dear to my heart. All proceeds are being donated to the Vienna Ballet Company, to help young dancers fulfill their dreams! This is an event you will want to see - be sure to follow my Instagram for snippets and stories!

And that’s a wrap, darlings, for another delightful week in Vienna! Don't forget to keep checking my blog each Wednesday, for more fun, ballet-inspired adventures! Until then, may your steps be light, your dreams be big, and remember: "Always wear your pink tutu!"

Until next Wednesday,

Emma,
