Vienna, my darling, Vienna! (Blog Post #1256)
Hello darlings, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Vienna! I'm Emma, your ever-so-slightly-obsessed tutu-wearing ballerina, writing to you from the heart of Austria, where the waltzes are as graceful as a pirouette, and the cakes are almost as sweet asā¦ well, pink!
This week, Iām indulging in the very best Vienna has to offer, a city that seems to have been crafted just for me. Yes, you guessed it - Iām here for the ballet!
This Wednesday is the perfect day to be here, with a triple-bill of The Sleeping Beauty in the afternoon at the grand Vienna State Opera and, in the evening, I'll be popping along to the Theater an der Wien for their production of Giselle, the quintessential romantic ballet, guaranteed to have me sobbing my heart out with sheer emotion.
But before I unleash the waterworks (itās okay to be emotional when surrounded by such stunning artistry, isnāt it?), I want to talk about the journey. Itās a must to travel by train, especially if you can find a lovely compartment just for yourself! Oh, the glamour of pulling out my travel makeup kit and giving my hair a good brush and flick of the wrist before arriving looking utterly chic in a station with all the grandiosity of a fairytale. Then there's nothing like a proper, old-fashioned horse and carriage to give a grand entrance into the city, the clip-clop of the hooves like a symphony of elegant movement!
Of course, when in Vienna, it's also essential to go a bit āshopping crazy." The city is bursting with beautiful boutiques filled with exquisitely designed clothing, perfect for a tutu-wearing girl like myself! And, just in case I need a quick pick-me-up, the cafes here offer endless possibilities for delightful tea and delicious pastries, preferably in shades ofā¦ you guessed it, pink! (Don't judge me; you can only get away with this when itās surrounded by Baroque architecture, gilded chandeliers, and Vienna's legendary musical charm.)
But really, I am here for the dancing! To see the most talented dancers in the world swirling through the beautiful stages in grand venues, the audience captivated by the elegance of each pose, the grace of every movementā¦ well, it sends shivers down my spine, makes my heart race and sparks my imagination. This week, the performance I am most looking forward to is āThe Sleeping Beauty,ā It's the embodiment of ballet beauty - a classic fairytale of love, redemption, and happily-ever-afters. Every detail of this ballet screams perfection: the intricate costumes, the hauntingly beautiful music, the elegant story that flows like a gentle current... Iāll be ready to let my eyes feast on the elaborate sets, the flowing fabrics of the dancers, the incredible steps that seem to defy gravity...
This time, I think I'll dress in my powder blue tutu! It will be like stepping right into a ballet stage myself. A bit of 'ballet-street' right there! Don't get me wrong, I love my pink, itās a passion that can never be ignored. But every once in a while, I do crave a bit of that beautiful ballerina-blues.
And then, thereās the history! It's everywhere you look in Vienna. Grand palaces and stately homes with a history steeped in imperial grandeur. Even a simple waltz in a cafĆ© could be a journey back in time, especially in this magical city. Iām absolutely smitten with the ballet's history, especially the early forms of ballet which are the true origin of everything we know and love today, all the steps, all the grace, all the elegant movementā¦ I'm completely captivated! Did you know there were dancers wearing elaborate gowns adorned with jewels back in the Renaissance? Just imagine those stunning costumes paired with our fabulous tutus!
This whole journey has me dreaming up my next fashion collection! It has got to have the grace of Viennese waltzes, the extravagance of royal balls, the fairytale charm of āSleeping Beautyā with an unmistakable pinch of pink and an irresistible splash of my signature, the tutu. My little heart bursts with inspiration at every turn. You can't help but feel transported to a time when even ordinary life was as captivating as a performance at the opera.
But this is Vienna, darling, a city where everything seems to flow gracefully from one grand performance to another! Itās truly one of the world's most beautiful cities! With its elegant charm and magnificent architecture, itās the ultimate destination for a true ballerina! This city will surely inspire my next āPink Tutuā creation!
I promise, Iāll tell you all about it next week, in another fabulously fun post. Until then, keep spreading the love of tutus andā¦ don't forget to dance!
Love,
Emma (Your Pink Tutu blogger)
