This week, I find myself swept up in the romantic charm of Vienna, Austria. The air is filled with the scent of freshly baked strudel and the gentle sounds of waltzing melodies, the very essence of Viennese romance. And you know what makes the experience even more magical? My trusty pink tutu, of course!
Travel by Train and a Pink Tutu Makes it a Magical Journey
My journey from Derbyshire, England, began with a delightful train ride through the rolling English countryside, a journey that always feels like a storybook adventure. As I boarded the train, I knew I was on the cusp of a grand European adventure, with my favourite pink tutu nestled in my carry-on. I always love to see what looks fabulous with my tutu for each destination, this time I opted for a simple white blouse, some ballet flats and a delicate rose-gold necklace, adding just the right touch of Viennese glamour to my tutu ensemble.
From Derbyshire to Vienna
Vienna is truly a city that resonates with ballet. Every cobblestone street whispers stories of Strauss waltzes and majestic ballerinas. From the Vienna State Opera House, renowned for its exquisite performances, to the impressive Palais Garnier, I felt a constant connection to the history of ballet. Even the horse-drawn carriages that clattered along the Ringstrasse seemed to be taking part in an elaborate ballet.

My Week of Ballerina-esque Delights
Vienna State Opera House: This weekend was a treat - I had the honour of attending a performance at the legendary Vienna State Opera House. The performance was "Swan Lake," a masterpiece I've admired for years. As I took my seat, feeling the soft velvet beneath me and the hushed anticipation of the crowd, it was simply breathtaking. Every detail of the production, from the stunning costumes to the masterful choreography, transported me into a world of elegant fantasy. The dancers glided effortlessly, their movements both powerful and graceful. I felt every emotion of the story: the anguish, the love, and the beauty of the swan’s transformation. The grand finale brought the audience to its feet in a thunderous applause, and I knew that this night was one I would treasure for a lifetime.
*The Ballet Museum (Österreichische Staatsballett) : * Stepping inside the ballet museum was like taking a journey back in time. It showcases the history of ballet, both here in Vienna and across the world, with beautifully displayed costumes, props, and photographs of iconic dancers. My heart skipped a beat when I saw a real tutu from the late 1800s - a vision of tulle and frills that inspired awe! I can only imagine how exquisite these ballets must have looked, with these magnificent garments gracing the stage. I must admit, it gave me a real sense of appreciation for the legacy of the tutu and how it has evolved throughout history.
Shopping till my tutu falls off! Vienna is a true shopper's paradise. With a heart overflowing with pink-tutu glee, I ventured into the enchanting boutiques along the Kärntner Strasse, hoping to find some new pieces to add to my ever-growing tutu collection. The shop windows were dazzling, with gorgeous fabrics, vintage clothing, and shimmering accessories. Each boutique offered a unique style, whether it was the whimsical charm of a local vintage shop, or the sleek sophistication of a high-end fashion store. I was mesmerized by the vibrant hues, intricate details, and exquisite craftsmanship of the pieces.
Fashion Inspirations in the Heart of Vienna
Vienna, a city of romantic allure, elegance, and timeless beauty, truly inspires me in more ways than one! Walking along the cobbled streets of the old city, watching couples stroll hand-in-hand, I couldn’t help but notice the subtle details, the chic touch of fashion. Here are some of my favourite observations:
- Embrace the floral print: A beautiful, floral print on a dress is classic, charming, and instantly elevates any look, it's perfect for capturing the essence of this beautiful city!
- Hats and bonnets, a classic look for Vienna: Adding a vintage touch to an outfit! Think silk, velvet, or a sweet, feminine straw bonnet for a touch of sophistication, I always have one in my handbag.
- Elegant Shoes: Vienna is all about that polished look, from dainty ballet flats, to classic heels. I love to pair my ballet flats with my tutus, giving my outfit an elegant touch.
- Accessories: the finishing touch: Statement earrings and delicate necklaces always complement an elegant look in this city. Vienna calls for that special sparkle!
