Pink Tutu Vienna: Post 1287 - A New Year's Day Waltz in the City of Music!

Happy New Year, darlings! It's Wednesday, the first day of January, and you know what that means? It's Pink Tutu Vienna time! And what better way to kick off 2020 than with a waltzing adventure through the enchanting city of Vienna?

This week, I'm swapping my Derbyshire hills for the majestic Viennese streets, feeling like a real-life fairytale princess in my tulle-licious pink tutu. Honestly, there's something about this city that makes even a simple ballet warm-up feel like a grand performance. Maybe it's the grand architecture, maybe it's the delicious pastries, maybe it's the air of cultural brilliance that's always in the air... but whatever it is, Vienna's got me absolutely smitten!

A Tutu Tale of Two Cities

This year, I decided to embark on a journey fuelled by the magic of ballet, starting with a glorious New Year's Day performance of "The Nutcracker" at the Vienna State Opera. Can you even imagine?! Seeing the Sugar Plum Fairy pirouette against the backdrop of Viennese grandeur – it was simply magical. My heart practically burst with joy watching the intricate costumes and dazzling choreography. Oh, the tutus! Such intricate layers of silk and tulle, each one a tiny work of art.

And speaking of art, I spent the next day lost in the opulent world of the Vienna Museum of Art History. The paintings, sculptures, and tapestries took me back in time, reminding me of the powerful connection between ballet and art history. It turns out, tutus weren't just for ballerinas, you know! Did you know that back in the day, powdered wigs and elaborate costumes were de rigueur for both men and women? They didn’t just dance, they strutted about in theatrical finery for social events too. Talk about #OOTD goals!

A Feast for the Senses

Of course, no Viennese adventure would be complete without indulging in the local delicacies. Think mouthwatering pastries, rich chocolates, and a steaming mug of Viennese coffee. And let's not forget the strudel – the queen of all pastries, crisp and flakey, and perfectly paired with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. I'm quite certain my waistline expanded by an inch or two, but it was a truly worthwhile sacrifice!

A Fairytale Journey

A trip to Vienna simply wouldn’t be complete without taking a magical horse-drawn carriage ride through the historic centre. The streets, lined with golden buildings and adorned with twinkling Christmas lights, were a vision of fairytale enchantment. I could barely keep my eyes open, feeling like I’d stepped into a scene from "Cinderella" or "The Sound of Music"! It felt like something out of a dream, the horses' hooves clopping against the cobblestone streets, the air filled with the sweet scent of pine needles and gingerbread.

Sharing the Love of Pink and Tutus

Vienna is a city full of surprises, and so are my pink tutu adventures. I can’t help but smile at the reaction I get when I twirl around a corner in my tutu, bringing a touch of magic to even the most mundane of days. The delighted faces, the laughter, and the heartfelt comments like "that’s so adorable" truly make my heart sing.

I firmly believe that every day should be a day for wearing a pink tutu, even if it's just for an hour or two. Think of the joy you’d bring! It's a reminder to stay playful, to embrace our inner child, and to dance our hearts out in this beautiful, wondrous world.

Next week?

Vienna is full of hidden gems, from majestic castles to whimsical museums. And I can't wait to share them all with you next Wednesday on www.pink-tutu.com!

Stay fabulous, my darlings!

XOXO, Emma
