Pink Tutu Vienna: A Waltz in the City of Dreams (Post #1310)

Dearest readers! I’m Emma, your ever-so-pink-tutu-loving ballerina blogger, writing to you from the most charming city in the world - Vienna! It’s Wednesday, the 10th of June 2020, and my little heart is positively bursting with excitement.

After a wonderfully scenic train journey from Innsbruck (which I'll detail in a future post – imagine alpine meadows, pastel-hued villages, and a charming gentleman offering me delicious chocolate!), I've found myself in the very heart of Vienna, ready to explore this city of music, culture, and – dare I say – pink.

This week's theme is Vienna, Waltz, and Wonderland - can you feel the magical air already? I can! And believe me, this magical journey is just getting started!

A City that Swirls like a Tutu

Vienna's streets are lined with fairytale palaces, whimsical cobbled squares, and the most enchanting shops you could imagine! You truly feel as if you’ve stepped into a grand ballroom, and let me tell you, my pink tulle skirt is twirling with excitement.

This week’s blog post is overflowing with Parisian charm! It's time to step out of your everyday life, dear readers, and into a world of exquisite art, graceful architecture, and a kaleidoscope of colour. Vienna embraces all that is beautiful, from its famous waltz to its breathtaking Imperial Palace. And with a city this beautiful, can we really resist a touch of pink?

I think not. This blog will focus on all things pretty, from ballet, to shops, and a waltz or two, all while I chase those fairytale moments around Vienna. This city has captured my imagination!

A Ballet Nut in Vienna

Of course, my visit to Vienna had to begin with a grand ballet performance at the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera). Can you believe this iconic venue actually boasts its own ballet company? Talk about living the dream!

Last night, I experienced a production of Swan Lake that absolutely captivated my soul. There’s just something about the way the dancers move that feels utterly transcendent.

Each leap, every twirl, and even the whispered movements… the ballet is the essence of elegant beauty, and you really can’t beat it! To watch these dancers glide across the stage, they really did appear as if they were floating, and reminded me of my very first foray into the world of ballet when I was just a tiny girl in my very first tutu.

I even managed to snag a glimpse of the ballet company’s rehearsal, which gave me goosebumps from start to finish. It’s one thing to see ballet on stage, but seeing these talented performers polish their movements and put everything into their performance? It was mesmerizing!

It’s these backstage glimpses into the creative world of the ballet that truly inspire me, remind me of my own aspirations, and show that ballet is more than just an artform – it’s a way of life, a language spoken through every movement.

Tutus in the Imperial City

And of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without indulging in a spot of shopping! While strolling through the historic streets, I came across an absolute gem - a charming boutique called Le Petite Tutu. This little shop felt like a doll's house, filled with gorgeous garments in delicate pastel shades and, of course, every shade of pink you could imagine!

I simply had to have a new tutu for my waltzing escapades in Vienna. Le Petite Tutu didn’t disappoint. They have everything: skirts for ballerinas of all ages, beautiful, dainty pointe shoes in an assortment of colours, sparkly ballet clothes, adorable tutus for little girls, as well as ballet and costume accessories and even an entire section devoted to ballet history - I was completely mesmerized! I almost spent an hour looking at everything in this wonderful store, before deciding upon my new tutu for the night, a fabulous cerise pink! It's a little shorter than my usual preference - but after waltzing in the park, I decided this was ideal for exploring the historic streets of Vienna!

There’s just something so elegant about pairing a twirly tutu with Vienna's classic architecture, you know? And let's be honest, you can never have too many tutus in your wardrobe.

Pink Touches for a Fuchsia Fairy

Vienna's got a secret, dear readers! It's a place that embraces colour, and the color pink is certainly well represented. I'm not surprised. Vienna oozes with such romanticism.

I've discovered so many little gems - cafes and tea shops adorned with pale pink roses and whimsical teacups, boutiques with charming pink dresses, and even pink-painted cobblestones scattered around the city like fallen jewels. The Viennese even seem to have a particular love for floral pink, a shade that blends seamlessly with the blooming gardens and manicured landscapes. Everywhere you look, there’s a dash of pink, whether it’s in the cherry blossoms blooming in the park, or the stunning floral displays in the window of a quaint flower shop. Pink here is as natural and beautiful as the city's charm, and perfectly captures Vienna's delightful personality.

As the day wears on, and the sun casts its golden glow on Vienna's rooftops, I'm embracing the magic of this city with every step, twirl, and delicious pink confection. My day ended with a delightful horse-drawn carriage ride through the heart of Vienna, a fairytale experience complete with pink parasols.

From ballet to boutiques and cobblestone walks, this little pink ballerina has found herself in a true waltz of dreams!

Until next Wednesday, dear readers! Don’t forget to wear pink and make your own magical adventures!

Lots of love,

Emma xx
