Pink Tutu Vienna: A Waltz into Viennese Charm (Blog Post #1448)
Wednesday 1st February 2023
Dearest Tutu Lovers!
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another installment of Pink Tutu Vienna, straight from the heart of the Austrian capital. Today, I'm feeling particularly effervescent – much like a freshly shaken bottle of Austrian bubbly. And you know why? It's because Vienna has captured my heart completely, and I just have to share the magic with you!
This week's adventures started, as always, with a ballet class at the Wiener Staatsballet – I do love my morning stretches! Dressed in a new blush-pink tutu, I glided through the steps, feeling every bit the ballerina swanning through Vienna’s magnificent State Opera House. You'll never believe it, but after class, I bumped into a fellow tutu enthusiast – a local Viennese woman who has an entire wardrobe of tutus for every occasion. Can you imagine? The ultimate sartorial inspiration, she truly embraced the Pink Tutu life long before it became chic!
This afternoon, I found myself whisked away on a most delightful carriage ride through the city. I can't even tell you how enchanting it was. The horse-drawn carriage, with its velvet seats and dangling bells, clopped along the cobblestone streets, offering a perfect view of the breathtaking architecture. You see, Vienna is not just a city, it’s a masterpiece!
Of course, a visit to Vienna is not complete without indulging in a little shopping therapy. I swear, this city is a haven for all things glamorous! Today, I unearthed a beautiful, silk scarf at a tiny boutique on Graben, the perfect pink hue to match my mood (and of course, my tutu!).
Speaking of pink hues, the pink palace, Schönbrunn Palace, stole the show today. It was so beautiful I almost choked on my pink candy floss. Its charming rose garden had me picturing a whole troop of ballerinas twirling amidst the roses - a delightful scene I just had to capture for you. I can't wait to share these images on PinkTutu.com next week.
As dusk settled, I found myself drawn to the beautiful Hofburg Palace. The Imperial Apartments had me completely mesmerized! They're still decked out in such royal splendor - a truly regal affair! My pink tutu almost felt out of place in such grand surroundings. Almost, I say. 😉
Tonight, a magical performance awaits: The Vienna State Opera's rendition of "The Nutcracker." Oh, how I do love this classic! The graceful ballet movements, the heartwarming story, the gorgeous costumes... what more could a Tutu-loving soul ask for?
Speaking of tutus, dear friends, this week, I’ve found myself pondering the evolution of tutus throughout history. From the romantic "Giselle" to the dramatic "Swan Lake," tutus have captured the imagination and beauty of ballet. Did you know, the tutu’s origins are thought to be from Maria Taglioni, who used a lighter, shorter version of the tutu in the early 1800s to facilitate graceful movement and a sense of liberation for the ballerina? How brilliant! I even did some research on the famous tutu worn by Margot Fonteyn in the "Swan Lake" (you know, the tutu that was forever cemented into ballet history?!) and let me tell you, the amount of detail that went into making it makes it truly an incredible piece of art! I almost wish I could own it myself... almost.
But the journey continues! I’ll be attending a ballet masterclass on Saturday. Vienna, my love, you have so much to offer! I can't wait to share all my Viennese adventures with you next week!
