Hello, darlings! Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to Vienna, the city of music, culture, and yes, you guessed it, the most stunning pink pastries I've ever seen! This week's adventures take us right into the heart of Austria, where waltz rhythms and opulent architecture blend seamlessly with my favourite shade and, of course, my trusty pink tutu. 😉
It’s Wednesday, so that means a new post is up on www.pink-tutu.com – and this time, we’re exploring Vienna with the graceful sway of a tutu! As you know, I fund my travels by dancing, and my last performance was in beautiful Bath, England. This time, it was a special ballet called “Sleeping Beauty”, and let me tell you, the audience loved my emerald green tutu – so much so, they even demanded an encore! ✨
After the applause died down and my bow was taken, I hopped aboard a sleek, silver train to Vienna. There's something about the rhythm of the tracks, the gentle sway of the carriages, that just seems to suit a tutu. It's almost as if the train is conducting a ballet of its own!
As my train pulled into Vienna, my eyes were immediately drawn to the elegant buildings, the sweeping avenues, and of course, the pink. There was pink everywhere, from the blooms of the chestnut trees to the pink-tinged façades of some of the buildings. Vienna really knows how to welcome a pink-loving ballerina!
Speaking of ballet, Vienna is a ballet lover's paradise. My first stop was, naturally, the Vienna State Opera, the majestic heart of Viennese ballet. Just walking up to the entrance felt like entering a fairytale. The grand staircase was adorned with elaborate sculptures, the walls were draped in rich, ruby-red velvet, and everywhere you looked, you saw history and elegance etched into the very stone of the building.
I managed to get tickets for a performance of "Swan Lake," which was as graceful and moving as I'd hoped. The dancers, with their breathtaking technique and stunning costumes, swept me away to a world of dreams. They even had a pink tutu in the performance, though mine is definitely the best pink tutu in existence, just saying. 😏
I wouldn't be a true ballerina blogger without making a stop at the Ballet Museum Vienna, tucked away on one of the quieter streets. They have the most fascinating collection of ballet shoes, costumes, and ephemera. There was even a little display on the history of tutus – it was fascinating to learn that they were once worn only by men, and weren’t actually intended for dancing. Fancy that!
My favourite part was a gorgeous exhibit on the life and career of Anna Pavlova, a famous ballerina of the early 20th century. Imagine – a pink tutu on a stage with a backdrop of snowflakes! Now, that's true elegance.
Of course, no trip to Vienna would be complete without experiencing its legendary Viennese coffee culture. Now, you might think, “What's coffee got to do with a pink tutu, Emma?” Well, my dear, I'll tell you!
Picture this: a bustling, brightly lit coffee house, overflowing with the rich scent of freshly roasted beans. In the corner, I’m perched on a velvet chaise longue, sipping a delicately sugared cappuccino while gazing at the ballet poster on the wall. Pure ballet bliss, I tell you! They have this incredible cafe called Café Central that serves delicious pastries in pink. I actually felt a little guilty, it was so beautifully decorated. I even asked for a second one, the pastry chef gave me such a look!
This cafe also had this enchanting pianist playing some incredible classical tunes - it felt like I’d stepped straight out of one of the old films with Audrey Hepburn! I sat there for hours, just listening and letting the atmosphere soak in, and thinking about the connection between the music and ballet. It's almost like the notes are conducting a silent ballet, guiding each graceful move.
Speaking of grace and beauty, no trip to Vienna would be complete without a waltz or two! Now, you don't need to be a professional ballerina to enjoy the elegant sway of the waltz – just some comfortable shoes and a willingness to twirl! I tried it myself on the beautiful Schönbrunn Palace grounds. And let me tell you, twirling in a pink tutu on a sunny afternoon surrounded by Austrian royalty feels like the most fitting tribute to this extraordinary city!
And what would a trip to Vienna be without some exquisite fashion? You already know, I'm a sucker for beautiful clothes. Luckily, Vienna did not disappoint! From high-end designer boutiques to quirky vintage shops, the city is a treasure trove of stunning fashions, all the better displayed against Vienna's impressive backdrop of elegant buildings. I picked up a stunning pink sequined jacket to match my new ballet shoes - I was simply inspired by all the dancing.
Oh, and a pink hat - pink fascinators really bring out the charm of a ballet-loving gal, right?!
But perhaps the biggest highlight of my Vienna trip was discovering a new ballet company, the Wiener Staatsoper. They're actually training the next generation of ballerinas, and it was such an honour to be able to watch them train and then even chat to a couple of them over coffee afterwards. They were so full of energy and passion – and what a treat to see all the potential shining through! They even had a few budding ballerinas in tutus as pink as my own. Now that’s a sign of the future!
Vienna is a truly unique city – with its historical beauty, artistic energy, and even a healthy dose of pink, it was an absolute joy to explore it with my tutu as my loyal companion. The waltz is alive and well in Vienna, and if I'm ever invited back, I know exactly where to pick up a partner for a spin!
I hope you all enjoyed my little foray into the heart of Vienna! Remember, if you have a pink tutu, anywhere in the world, you can be a ballerina, just like me. That's the secret I'm trying to share, folks – pink tutus are for everyone!
So until next Wednesday, I leave you with a twirl and a flourish of my pink tulle skirt,
And a pink-tastically cheerful farewell,
Emma xx
