Vienna Calling! A Pink Tutu Tour Through Time (Post #1548)
Dearest fellow tutu-lovers,
It’s a blustery Wednesday morning here in Vienna, and you know what that means – it's time for another instalment of the Pink Tutu Vienna blog! I'm settling in to my charming little B&B – it's got the most adorable floral wallpaper and a window that overlooks a bustling square, perfect for people-watching whilst sipping on a strong Viennese coffee.
But before I dive into the delightful sights and sounds of Vienna, let's rewind a bit, shall we? As you know, my travels are always funded by my love for dance – I'm blessed to be able to earn a living by twirling and pirouetting across various stages, bringing stories to life through the magic of movement.
This past week, I had the joy of performing a solo in "The Nutcracker" in a quaint theatre nestled in the heart of Derbyshire. It's always a special feeling to bring this cherished ballet back to my hometown – the audience’s gasps and delighted smiles remind me why I love to dance, why I wear my pink tutu with such pride.
Speaking of tutus, I had to share my latest find - a beautiful vintage pink tulle tutu I picked up at a local antique shop in Derbyshire. The seller told me it was once owned by a ballerina from the early 1900s - I could almost imagine her, graceful and elegant, dancing beneath the gaslight stage, wearing this very tutu.
It's the perfect piece to wear as I explore Vienna – this city just oozes history, from the majestic Schönbrunn Palace to the towering St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Vienna is a ballet lover’s paradise – and my Pink Tutu is already soaking up all the grandeur and magic!
Yesterday, I took a thrilling horse-drawn carriage ride through the heart of Vienna – such a delightful and romantic way to travel! We stopped by the famous Hofburg Palace, where Empress Sisi, a huge figure in dance history, lived for many years. This enchanting place brought back memories of my visit to the ballet "Sisi" - I remember being so captivated by the grandeur and grace of the Imperial Court life – and by the choreography that captured Sisi's yearning for freedom amidst her strict royal duties.
I’ve spent today exploring Vienna’s renowned museums. The Kunsthistorisches Museum houses an incredible collection of Renaissance and Baroque art, but it's the museum dedicated to the legendary Marie Antoinette that has truly captured my heart! Imagine - wearing a gorgeous pink tutu in the grand halls of the Palace of Versailles, amongst shimmering jewels and velvet fabrics - I'm completely lost in daydreams!
Vienna's allure is not just its grand architecture and rich history, but its undeniable artistic soul. This evening, I’m indulging in a truly magical experience – the Vienna State Opera! I'm looking forward to the exquisite performances and, of course, I’m bringing my favourite pink tutu for the occasion.
Don’t worry, I’ll have loads to share in my next blog post - I'm already plotting a trip to the stunning Vienna State Opera House - it's on my must-see list, for sure! In the meantime, my dear readers, do tell me about your favourite ballet-inspired travels! Have you visited any inspiring locations that made you feel like you stepped out of a storybook?
And always remember – never underestimate the power of a pink tutu – it has a magical way of bringing a touch of sparkle and joy to any occasion!
Keep dancing, my lovelies!
Lots of love and pink tulle, Emma xxx
