Pink Tutu Vienna: Episode 1555 - Ballet and Baroque Beauty in the City of Waltz

Hello lovelies! It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Vienna post! I'm writing to you from the heart of Vienna, a city that's already stolen a piece of my heart. The grandeur, the history, the waltzing tunes – it's pure magic.

The Tutu Train Travels On!

This week, I hopped aboard a sleek, silver train from beautiful, charming Innsbruck. You wouldn't believe how much space there is on these Austrian trains! There's enough room for my pink tutu to twirl without accidentally kicking someone in the head, which is a definite plus in my book. My fellow passengers, most clad in traditional Dirndls and Lederhosen, seemed less than amused when I struck a graceful pose beside my suitcase, but I blame the sunshine reflecting off my tulle for their bewildered looks. Who knew pink could be so intimidating?

Vienna - City of Music and Majesty

Stepping off the train at Wien Hauptbahnhof, I was immediately greeted by a sea of classical tunes – Mozart's 'Magic Flute', I believe – cascading from street performers and the grand architecture around me. It was an experience I can only describe as truly inspiring! Vienna is, of course, known for its deep musical heritage and that certainly showed, from the opulent buildings to the street corner musicians. Even the trams seemed to be swaying to a waltzing rhythm. I'm so tempted to ditch the shoes and just twirl my way around!

Tutu History

I found the most amazing vintage tutu shop this week! I had to, of course, treat myself to something special for my upcoming performance at the Opernhaus this weekend, and let's just say, this little gem was full of historical gems too. Turns out, tutus haven't always been pink! They've taken on a life of their own – a veritable history of fashion that would make any ballet enthusiast swoon! From the soft layers of early Victorian romanticism to the modern styles that accentuate every athletic curve, there's something about a tutu that never gets old. I mean, can you even imagine ballet without one? It's almost inconceivable, isn't it?

Ballet in the City of Dreams

Speaking of ballet, I couldn't have arrived at a better time! It seems Vienna's bursting with ballet performances right now. I spent Tuesday night watching the Wiener Staatsoper put on a dazzling production of Giselle - pure enchantment! I can't recommend seeing it enough, it's a breathtaking experience and a perfect embodiment of Vienna’s grace and opulence.

Shopping till I drop... or twirl!

Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without indulging in some serious shopping therapy! The boutiques here are overflowing with treasures – I can't tell you how many beautiful pink dresses and blouses I had to try on, but that was before I found this unbelievable vintage pink handbag! Just wait till you see the pictures on Pink Tutu later this week! My handbag collection needs more pink in it anyway!

Where Pink Tutued Adventures Will Lead Next…

This week, I'm diving deeper into the fascinating history of Vienna. I’m planning on exploring the Imperial Palace - I hear it has stunning ballet-related exhibits! And of course, no trip to Vienna would be complete without indulging in a delicious Viennese coffee (pink latte anyone?), followed by a graceful waltz across the famous Vienna State Opera House - a dream come true for any ballet enthusiast. I can't wait to see what surprises await!

Join me for more of this magical Viennese journey next Wednesday at Pink Tutu Vienna.

Until then, happy twirling!

Emma, the Pink Tutu Queen of Vienna.
