Darling readers,
Oh, Vienna, how you have stolen my heart! My darling tutus and I have been waltzing through the streets of this majestic city, and I feel like I've stepped straight out of a storybook. This is my 1573rd blog post, and I think it might just be the most enchanting one yet!
Last week, I left the cobbled streets of Derbyshire, bidding farewell to the quaint charm of the Peak District. Now, Iām sitting in my little Viennese apartment, sipping a cup of melted chocolate with a dusting of cinnamon. The scent of coffee and pastries hangs heavy in the air. Itās just starting to rain, and the air is so alive with a thousand chattering conversations that it seems almost alive!
How I got here, you ask? Well, the train journey from Derbyshire was simply divine. A carriage full of charming Austrian gentleman sporting elegant tweed suits and twinkling eyes, plus my faithful pink tutus tucked safely in my bag, what more could a girl want?
Itās the end of June, and the air is buzzing with excitement for a brand new ballet production - āVienna Waltzesā at the Vienna State Opera! I'm completely head over heels. Itās just the sort of event that ignites my passion for dance, fashion, and the magic of theatre. The costumes for this ballet sound breathtaking!
Tutu Tidbits: A Waltz Through History
Speaking of ballet costumes, this trip wouldnāt be complete without some tutu history! The waltz - such a quintessentially Viennese dance - is said to have found its way into ballet with the iconic ballerina, Marie Taglioni. In 1832, she waltzed onto the stage, draped in layers of gauzy, transparent tulle. This, my darlings, is where the classic ballerina look was truly born - airy, ethereal, and beautifully romantic. Now, just imagine dancing under the grand chandelier of the State Opera! Oh, my heart flutters just thinking about it.
Vienna is famous for its beautiful palaces and gardens. The Schƶnbrunn Palace is magnificent! Just picture a classic ball gown swirling under the chandeliers, with cascading skirts reaching all the way to the marble floors - now that's how you make an entrance! The other day, I had the opportunity to indulge my inner princess at a private carriage tour around the palace grounds. I imagined I was Marie Antoinette herself, my delicate tulle ruffles catching the wind as I gracefully glided down the avenues. The horses were incredibly patient and gentle, almost like two graceful swans pulling my little carriage through a dream. I simply couldn't resist twirling for them, I felt so at home!
Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without an indulgent shopping spree. My darling tutus wouldn't stand for it! A little indulgence is just part of the Vienna charm. This morning, I found the most delightful shop tucked away on a narrow street, crammed with hand-painted porcelain dolls, antique perfume bottles, and vintage postcards. Inside, the aroma of bergamot and vanilla hung in the air. The shop owner, a lovely woman with silver hair and bright blue eyes, gifted me a beautiful pearl and crystal-encrusted broach with a tiny rose attached. A perfect embellishment for my new vintage lace tutu!
Speaking of embellishments, Iām currently planning to try my luck at creating some delicate flower accents for my favorite pink tutu. I picked up some delicate silk ribbons and pearl beads at the Viennese market yesterday. This little bit of craft will add a touch of Viennese glamour! And then, who knows, maybe a waltz through the gardens later tonight, under the Vienna moonlight...
A Fashionable Flurry of Adventures
To top it off, this Friday evening I'm booked to dance in a Viennese street theatre. Itās a pop-up ballet performance where I'll be joined by a group of fellow ballet dancers. My tutus and I will be showcasing our pirouettes to a cheering crowd under a canopy of fairy lights.
Let me tell you, there's just something truly special about being surrounded by an adoring audience - especially when wearing a stunning, shimmering pink tutu. That moment, the roar of the applause, the twinkle lights dancing around me as I leap and twirl - thatās when I feel truly at home. Itās my happy place. I have a special tutu picked out, a gorgeous vintage creation that looks almost like a rose in bloom. It's the perfect balance of grace and vibrancy, and Iām so excited to bring some Viennese magic to the street!
Well, darlings, I must confess that I've barely scratched the surface of this exquisite city. So many more adventures await, from sipping exquisite Viennese coffee, to wandering through enchanting museums, and possibly, just possibly, indulging in the most glorious slice of sachertorte - Viennaās legendary chocolate cake. Oh, my sweet teeth, I can barely wait!
Until next week, stay twirling,
Emma
P.S. Did you know that June 27th is International Tutu Day? Now, how wonderfully coincidental, as it will be a little over two days when this blog post gets published!
Donāt forget to keep up with my pink tutu journey over on my website www.pink-tutu.com. Until next time, I'm off to practice my waltz moves and twirl under the moonlight!
