Vienna: Waltz into Wonder (Blog Post #1635)

Hello my darling tutu twirlers! ?✨ Emma here, your pink-clad guide to all things fabulous, and today I'm writing to you from the heart of Vienna, Austria! I just arrived, fresh off a breathtaking train journey across the European countryside - all rolling hills and charming little villages, each one a story waiting to be told.

This week, however, the story is all about Vienna, and Vienna is all about waltz. I can already hear the lilting music in the air, feel the spirit of Strauss, and I’m positively giddy with anticipation!

My love affair with Vienna began with a single ballerina figurine. As a child, I stumbled upon it tucked away in my grandma's attic, its delicate form painted in shades of blush and lavender, a tiny tutu framing its tiny form. This figurine became my constant companion, and with it, a silent pact: to dance on stages, wear a tutu with pride, and spread the joy of dance everywhere I went.

Today, Vienna seems to hum with this same spirit - a spirit of elegance, artistry, and grace. And my trip couldn't have come at a better time!

September 2nd sees Vienna alive with a magical ballet calendar:

  • Vienna State Opera: "Swan Lake" - a true classic, showcasing the heartbreaking tale of Odette and Siegfried. I can't wait to see the dancers soar through the air, the grandeur of the stage transporting me into a fairytale world.
  • Volksoper Wien: "Giselle" - another beloved classic, this time telling the story of a heartbroken maiden who transforms into a Wilis. There's a bittersweet beauty to this story that always makes my heart skip a beat.
  • Vienna Ballet Academy: "Summer Gala" - showcasing the talents of up-and-coming dancers, this event promises a vibrant burst of creativity and youthful energy. It's an opportunity to witness the blossoming talents of the next generation of ballerinas!

I also plan to immerse myself in Viennese culture, venturing beyond the dance floors. I can't wait to explore the Schönbrunn Palace and wander its gorgeous gardens - rumour has it there are secret passageways and hidden rooms! And I've heard whispers of a secret Parisian café tucked away in the city, serving exquisite macarons - definitely adding that to the itinerary!

Vienna, of course, is famous for its stunning architecture. I've planned to admire the grand Viennese coffee houses with their decadent chandeliers, their ornate interiors. I'll also be making a pilgrimage to the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) where, imagine this - I just know there are gorgeous examples of tutu design history.

While Vienna has so much to offer, my focus, as always, is on the tutu. It's a sartorial emblem of elegance and joy, an unspoken promise of graceful movement. And Vienna, with its legacy of waltzes, elegance, and grace, feels like the perfect setting to - what else? - celebrate the glorious tutu!

Of course, this trip is fueled by the love of dance, and supported by my beautiful ballet performances - each pirouette bringing me one step closer to my ultimate goal: to make wearing a pink tutu a universal trend, a global celebration of the grace within us all!

So, join me on this exciting journey through the heart of Vienna. Stay tuned for my weekly blog, where I'll be sharing all the vibrant, charming, and tutu-licious discoveries! I promise it'll be a ballet-inspired journey to remember!

Until then, happy dancing, darling! ? ?
