Happy Wednesday, darlings!
The frosty air of Vienna nipped at my cheeks as I disembarked from the Orient Express, my trusty pink tulle swishing about my ankles like a mischievous pixie. It's the first day of 2027, and my diary is overflowing with tutu-tastic plans in the heart of Austria, the land of waltzes, Sachertorte, and…wait for it…fabulous ballet!
Oh, darling, Vienna is truly a wonderland! Everywhere you turn there's history oozing from every cobblestone and ancient building. My Vienna week kicked off with a visit to the opulent Schönbrunn Palace, where I could practically hear the whispers of Empress Elisabeth (the most glamorous ballerina of all time, in my humble opinion) drifting through the grand halls.
Of course, a ballet-obsessed gal like me had to head straight for the Staatsoper, Vienna’s legendary opera house, it's an absolute architectural marvel. It's steeped in history and beauty - and I just love the grand entrances and that sense of hushed reverence as everyone settles in. I popped my head into the elegant shop there (after all, a tutu-tastic journey calls for some stylish souvenirs!), picking up the most beautiful ballerina-themed ornaments for my collection.
Speaking of my collection, let's talk tutus! Did you know that the origins of the tutu date back to the 1800s, thanks to a little innovation by the lovely Mademoiselle Marie Taglioni, who debuted a shorter, lighter version for her revolutionary role in “La Sylphide”? Just the thought of her delicate tulle swirling across the stage makes my heart skip a beat!
Now, what could possibly top a day exploring a royal palace and the legendary Vienna Opera House? Well, how about a horse-drawn carriage ride, naturally! Picture this: me, twirling gracefully (because even on the streets of Vienna I must be twirling) in my darling pink tutu as I'm whisked through the city's picturesque avenues, the clip-clop of horses’ hooves adding their own unique rhythm to my journey. Just pure fairytale vibes!
Later that evening, it was off to the Wiener Staatsoper (again, I can never get enough of this beautiful building!). This time I was mesmerized by the majestic "Swan Lake". Those iconic swan tutus - the elegance, the poise, the sheer athleticism - it was just stunning!
The sheer joy of dancing - whether it's ballet, waltz, or even just twirling around your living room - it's infectious! You can feel it bubbling over in Vienna, in the waltzes of Strauss, in the elegant grace of the city, and definitely, absolutely, in my own tutu-tastic adventures.
Stay tuned for more delightful dispatches from my Viennese journey! And don’t forget, darlings:
Get out there and embrace the magic of the pink tutu!
Until next week, Emma www.pink-tutu.com
